That's a sneaky angle because it's the access road off the rally loop! I saw some camera types loitering there and got some similarly rallyish shots as the cars gently meandered up the lane. You could walk down the road to the spectator area - I suspect it was supposed to be off bounds but as the cars were pootling along it wasn't a problem.

As ever photographing an event is a learning process - I spent a bit of time looking for decent angles. I didn't really find anything I was happy with down towards the Clearways end of the circuit, does anyone have any good ideas for down there? |

IIRC they only ran Clearways for SS7/8. Nice rear shot into the final corner (flaming exhausts if you are lucky) or head on as they come towards you. There's a few on my Flickr feed (link back up the thread).

Riponian Stages this weekend, 6 stages in the Yorkshire forests at Cropton, Wass Moor and Gale Rigg.
Good entry list. Spectator info here. I plan to spend the day at Wass Moor. Weather looks chilly but dry. No better place to spend a Sunday in early February . |

Riponian Stages was fun. Very cold all day but wildly different weather - sunny morning and hail/snow in the afternoon. Very slippery and there were some who were caught out, but credit to a good field for persevering. Never gets dull watching R5s, Imprezas and Escorts snarling through forests.

Didn't manage to get to this event, but have been plenty of times before; I've always enjoyed spectating in Wass.

A little late, here are my pictures from Brands Hatch: https://bit.ly/3GuSzJu
I shot the first two stages at the rally stage, but discarded all those from the first stage because of the mist. About half this album is pictures from stage 2, with cones painstakingly edited out (I hate traffic cones, why is it necessary to use them to mark the egde of a perfectly obvious rally course?)! The rest are from the sneaky angle of the cars emerging through the trees as they returned from the rally stage and of the chicane at the top of Paddock Hill Bend. I did take more pictures of cars on the regular circuit, but these just felt like ordinary Brand Hatch pictures, not very rallyish, so I discarded them too. Overall I like the mud, trees and grime of the rally stage better. I think rallying is infecting me . |

Thanks - was waiting for stage maps to be available. Any idea if we can get round to outside of Coram in the morning given that they are using the service road for SS1-4 ?

I was hoping you’d know! This will be my first time at this event. I’m keen to get pictures of the cars on those access roads and the other gravelly bits.

For Brands MSV publish their 'spectator information' close to the event and that has a map showing the spectator areas - maybe they'll issue one for Snetterton too? Hopefully the weather doesn't intervene - I'd have thought they'd be doing setup on Friday but the weather looks awful (and cones certainly won't stay where you put them in those winds!).

A sample set from Snetterton yesterday - lots more to work through. Sunny (but very chilly) start to the day gave way to rain by lunchtime. Didn't go through to Coram until SS5 in the afternoon and I think I was the only one shooting from there. Worth it for different shots.

Nice sets dwh43scale, saw some of the livestream and it looked like you had a very wet day: gave you some good watersplash shots though!

Every trip to a circuit rally gives me nightmares involving cones for a week .

A necessary evil, I fear.
Better than the pallets that Goodwood used for the South Down Stages a couple of years back; fell over at the slightest hesitation. |

Here's some pictures from Riponian Stages a few weeks ago: https://bit.ly/3JXir2M
All taken during the two stages in Wass Moor. The morning run in bright gorgeous sunlight, the afternoon run after a hailstorm and with snow falling on the last few cars . This was a round of the British Historic Rally Championship so there's a lot of Escorts! Also a Datson, some old BMWs and one or two other rarities, alongsde the modern Imprezas and R5s. A really enjoyable day, I hope you enjoy the pictures! |

Looking good nice to see a 6R4 out competing (and if you're there in person - nice to hear ). What's access like for photography at this event? Can you get good angles of cars on the "you don't normally see cars flat out there" bits of the circuit estate?

Access is reasonable. When they used the circuit in reverse in the afternoon it opened some gaps in fences to a front on shot. There were a few tyre barrier chicanes, but still enough decent runs between them to get up speed.
