Blimey Tim I am the registered plate supplier and I can assure you it would not be legal. Check it out with the DVLA if you dont believe me! Your man is wrong and I am prepared to have a tenner bet on that. A quick google found this site without even going to the DVLA which confirms what I say. http://www.classic-number-plate.com/...ber-plate.html

And Zef no they wouldnt worry about during the race but if they drove it on UK roads they may. BTW we are talking a stuck on number plate her not the fact its a silver and black plate which is legal before 74.

I stand to be corrected Al, but I thought '72 on an L was the newest legal black & silver plate?

Mark,

Notwithstanding the number plates it looks great. And as long as its got roller rockers, a Ford Motorsport Block and all steel internals, rose jointed suspension etc. it should be a shoe-in for the 6hrs.

Wasnt the argument that the 289 blocks are as rare as hen's teeth and you could therefore use the 302 block or am I getting mixed up with other regs? BTW Colin you are correct Pre 73 for the silver on black (L).

Blimey Al, I am the registered MOT tester and it would be OK, white or silver numerals on a black background and there is no mention as to how big the background can be. I wouldn't take much notice of a private website that is trying to make a few bucks, just VOSA or the DVLA

Actually you could be right here. I asked if I could biuld a car to run in the Eau rouge and I was told it was a sort of overspill class and not one that cars purposely entered. Strange cos at the time there was an Escort and a 240Z entered prior to the event.

Tim I believe we are arguing on crossed purposes sorry. I thought the poster said shame about the rigid numberplate and should use a stick on to which I replied THAT would be illegal not the fact its silver on black on a 66, hope that clears the confusion and sorry to sidetrack the thread again.

I'm all confused now. I might re-register it in Lithuania or something. And if we go well there will be lots of shaking of heads and mutterings of "I told you it was bent".

a Mustang won a few years back so you already have a benchmark asto what is achieveable.... On that basis you should be a contender for a podium so its really a case of us questioning your ability if you dont do well! ;o)

I'm surprised at Ford investing the funds they did for the GT40 styling exercise.Must have been a Company Tax Break.
Funny we didn't get half a grid full of Mustangs the following year though, sort of disproves the addage "Win on Sunday".

The Mustang or the brick of a Fairlane would surely have been no match for the GT40 at LeMans wuth the 200mph Mulsanne straight, that Fairlane brick would probably have needed another 300bhp to match the slippery GT40's top speed and thats the race Ford did it for, plain and simple to beat Ferrari on European soil as there was history between the two companies.
