Starting to see them making it into the run off's more and more often ... So its got to be only a matter of time ? - Weather conditions could well well be the significant factor here - REALLY hot at Wiscombe on the weekend and the car engines were certainly not liking it - Didn't seem to phase the bike engines though ?

I don't think there's ever going to be a substitute for Torque and BHP for overcoming drag and gravity.
I think the future probably lies with engines made out of ever lighter materials (or materials that are stronger per volume), and designed to deliver higher RPM. To my mind that suggests hybrids of car and bike engines, of which Trevor Willis' is just the first. |

I can see bike engined cars winning the odd champioship round in the next few seasons at the right venue. Their day will come if legislation ever prevents big capacity cars from competing on environmental or safety grounds, but on the same basis big bike engines might also disappear from the roads.

For what it's worth.....
Recent results for the Victorian Hillclimb Championship in Australia.
Andrew Howell is the Gould driver who had Martin and David Gould over to Bathurst last year. (GR55B / NME 2.6L) Brett Hayward is a brilliant Engineer / Tuner who has competed a lot in the New Zealand Race to the Sky at Silverston as well as the VHC. (Self built spaceframe,Worked and Supercharged Hayabusa running Hayward manifolds and maps). Makes interesting reading. 2008 Victorian Hillclimb Championship - R7 Haunted Hills Driver Car R1 R2 R3 Andrew Howell Gould GR55B: 56.41, 52.33, 57.19 Brett Hayward Hayward s/c: 52.69, 51.37, 54.60 The Bike Engined Cars are coming - the others just haven't realised it yet. |

not really indicative: brand new track with no rubber laid down, drivers unfamiliar with it and a tight layout - results could tighten or blow out. HC champs is at bathurst and I expect the gap will be bigger.

I think the lack of bike engine top combination of drivers and cars, damage the chances in Australia.....but I think it will happen but not sure what track and when.

YES Australia leads the way...... Bretts times are impressive with a new track record on Sunday of the AHHC..... this was done with a non super charged car.. more impressive.... i believe this is the first time in Twenty years that a Victorian has won outright.... Also a new Champion crowned.... As its Bretts First.....
