The REAL Stig is...

...Who? I can't find that this has been debated previously so thought we could have some educated guesses. We all know that the first black-dressed stig was my motorsport legend Perry McCarthy but who is Stig 2?

I'll start off by throwing the name of former British F3 race winner and current GT driver Ben Collins into the ring. Thoughts?

And I await THE STIG to come along and perhaps try to claim the mantle!

I would suggest it's somebody who's got a very broad range of experience of many different forms of the art (IE, GT's, Tin Tops, Slicks & Wings).

For a little while I thought it might be either Rob Huff or Andy Preaulx, but both have feet to heavily under a particular manufacturers table for them to be allowed to do it.

You would have to guess it's somebody in either BTCC, LMES or the Brit GT's, but who's never been stable with one team or manufacturer for very long. Somebody with a lot of talent and experience in all sorts of race cars, espeicially getting used to new cars quickly.

Sounds a bit like Phil Bennett to me.

I'm pretty sure it is ben Collins, about 2 years ago I went to some army recruitment day and the TA had Ben Collins car there, as he was sponsored by them. The man said that he was the Stig. I thought it was rubbish but then when i hear it from more and more people it makes sense. Experienced, can be on or near the pace when he jumps straight in a car as shown in Brit GT. And no manufacturer connections.

the stig

I have seen a posting on here today and it relates to that of "the stig".

What I want to know is is this user the "real" stig or just some reg who happens to make people think he is the mysteriousness of the man himself from top gear.

it sure does make me wonder, who knows, the man himself could be viewing this page as we speak. this will more than likely remain a mystery.

One day they may reveal who the stig is or isn't in this case.

if they haven't already.

I think it's been widely reported that the latest stig is Ben Collins with Perry McCarthy being the previous incarnation.

As is widely known, the original Stig was former Andrea Moda pilot Perry McCarthy. The present Stig is none other than British GT ace & former Indy Lights racer Ben Collins.

Although, other irregular drivers have donned the famous black / white helmet, such as Darren Turner (Aston Martin DBR) & Heikki Kovalainen (Renault F1).

And that seems to be a pretty good summary, thank you, Super Hans. I'm now going to lock this thread since I think 400 posts is enough to be going round in ever decreasing circles. The record's cracked and broken now!

No problem if you want to start a new thread, but if you do, please make sure that you are bringing something new (preferably with evidence!) to it.

(PS, I've just been PM'd by a 'souce' who thinks it likely that Rob Barff is the current incumbent of 'The Stig' role ...... and I'm still not reopening the thread!)
