Verstappen gets his first pole and is the 100th different pole sitter, in the history of F1.

McLaren can be pleased with themselves, with Norris 7th and Sainz 8th.

Yes well done to Max he was certainly tidy. And of course it's a Honda engine on pole. McLaren must be really pleased with themselves.

Let's see if Honda, Max and Red Bull, can turn this into a win tomorrow.

Indeed, no points for qualifying. Really pleased to see Norris and Russell doing well. Also I hope Sainz gets a good result tomorrow.
I wonder what Ricciardo is thinking right now though.

Maybe there should be a point for pole, there is for fastest lap in the race?

Wow! A great pole. A good battle to get there. Well done Max.
Decent laps from Bottas and the McLarens. Nice Leclerc did well to recover, but he needs to cut out these mistakes. Still he's fast.
Lewis won't want that on Netflix.

I believe there used to be a point for pole. I don't agree with points for either TBH

I agree. Just for the race.
The point for fastest lap is just for the show nowadays to keep some interest and reason to drive fast near the end. It works for the show, but the point of the exercise should just be the sport and trying to finish high in the race. IMHO.

I'm pretty sure his switch is going to end up as one of the all-time worst career moves.
Red Bull's resurgence is great for the enjoyment of watching the races, but it's also good news for Hamilton. As long as he, Verstappen, Bottas, Leclerc and Vettel are trading places, none of them will accrue the succession of 25-pointers they need to eat into his lead.

Red Bull's resurgence is also great for the sport in general, as now it looks like there is a team that can finally challenge Mercedes dominance.

I predict the Merc under Mr. RoBottas to overpower the Red bull on the first straight after the lights go out. It will be reminiscent of when Hakkinen blew by Schumacher at the first corner with MS on pole. Don't remember the year, however it does seem like yesterday.

I guess you are thinking about 2000. Mika was third on the grid.
The inside grid positions are traditionally dirty and bad for starting. When there was warm-up in the morning people starting on the inside used to drive down that that side to clean it up.

Yep I was hoping for it (Q2) down in Australia. Great lap. And 1.3secs faster than Kubica.
