Gonna be posh next year and bring the caravan with a big awning! Lots of room to be under cover it anyone needs to!(sure the OH wont mind!) As well as Paul doing the curry night I thought I might do a bbq on one of the evenings too (going to be there all four days!) Just hope we are grouped together.

We need to find out how many Oulton marshals are going to the 24 and then approach Silverstone ES team/BRSCC and ask if we can have 2, 3 etc posts to run. Should work out great if they allow it. We do a similar thing at the Nurburgring 24. I'm quite happy to observe on one of the posts and I know Paul Newns (Bellini trophy winner and flag god! ) will do flags. Gravel monkey and Faz will play in the gravel. Any other Oulton guys and girls up for this?
Perhaps other circuits who have a number of marshals going could do the same? Last edited by Mike Kelly 1; 24 Nov 2007 at 20:15. |

The corner idea sounds excellent - us Scots are always itching to invade and take over part over Englandshire, even if only for a weekend. What more motivation do you need to get more marshals - either get more to come from your local circuit or you spend 4 days at Hanger Straight by yourself (Not knocking the post, only an example)
What about each circuit having a "24hr co-ordinator" that could canvas the local marshals to get a rough idea of how many would come along - then if it is viable numbers that show interest it can be taken from there - ie how it fits in with the ES teams postings etc, assume they would not be chuffed getting chucked of posts just to let a bunch of foreigners in, last thing we want is to put anyone off coming. In reality would it not work along the lines the way it does each year, ES guys supported by foreigners so to speak, only this way they would be all from one nation!!! Mind you the Silverstone peeps all might be happy to go on their own posts away from the invaders. Naturally Scotland being furthest north would like post 1, with this being the most northerly post at Silverstone- only due to being closed to pub though!!! |

This corner idea sounds great in principle, however, Im starting to think its gonna be a bit secular and not the "all in together" ness I have enjoyed whilst visiting other events this year! Whilst a good idea for we all know who we are working with, just think it will lose some of the camaraderie we all love when doing these types of event? Any one else got any thoughts on the matter?

Great to pick up on the enthusiasm and read about all you ideas for next year. I certainly intend to talk to Silverstone and the EERC about 'camping' adjacent to posts, at least on the Saturday night.
As far as post allocation goes then I think a balance needs to be struck between the convenience of being with people you know and the advantages of rotating people around (plus the need to ensure a decent skills mix around the whole circuit). I shall recommend that we run with the paired posts again, which I don't think everybody got the idea of this year (two adjacent flag posts operating during the 'day' but with individuals rotating every few hours and one at 'night' so that everybody gets some sleep, ES marshals spread out or grouped as appropriate to the section of track). The one single thing that will make it easiest to do all this is the number of people that turn up! |

Slept in the back of an estate car, adjacent to post, between shifts, worked quite well.
Think it would be nice if people with caravans could park them next to posts. They might offer their collegues some comfort and shelter, while they are not on post, as well I'll try and persuade the Snetterton crew to come along next year, so they can marshal a 24hr race, with fast cars |

For those of you who were thinking of marshaling for the support races, and were wondering what the Toyo Tires Racing Saloons were - have a look here: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...16#post2075816. Can't wait as racing on the GP circuit will be one of the highlights of the year for me personaly, and there is a good chance of some nice close racing to keep you guys entertained on the bank. Cheers Rob |

TO any one who wants to stay near post during the 24hr you will need to ask the circuit. The EERC only rent the track and have no jurisdiction over the circuit security or circuit arrangments and nor will the BRSCC.

I dont know if this has been mentioned here before but there is a 2 hour highlights programme of the Silverstone 24 hours on Sky Sports 2 today (thursday) from 10am to 12pm. The show is then repeated again on Sky sports 2 on Thursday from 3pm to 5pm. Should be good, ill be watching and recording it with Sky+.

Its was interesting to hear Verge's opinion of the incident with the hamster. Top Gear's view could be very different.
Are hamsters like rabbits ?, when they see bright lights closing on them, panic and get run over. |

I think i'll have a go at this one in 2008, I'm hoping that being a trainee won't get in the way of this tho.
PS: I have tonight's top gear that I can convert for web download if anyone wants it. |

Nexus - I did the 24 hours in 2006 as a Trainee, you should have no problems.
Who spotted themselves on TG then? |
