Stefan Ziegler Accident
Just thought I'd post a note to let anyone who was there and is concerned about Stefans accident testing at Goodwood yeasterday. The Lister caught very fierce fire at the top of Lavant and the flames filled the footwell and up to his face. He got the car slowed down enough and pointing at the gravel at Woodcote to jump out. Unfortunately on landing he injured his knee. Marshalls and everyone at Goodwood were 1st class. the fire was put out and ambulance arrived.
At St Richards xrays showed he has broken the top of the tibia and minor burns to his lower leg so looks like a bit of a long boring recovery. He goes back to Switzerland today for an operation. |

Ben, thanks for that update. Sounds like a nasty accident but it is good to know that whilst unpleasant and painful, Stefan's injuries are not too serious. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Ben,
Sounds awful, glad to hear he is OK. I guess it should bring it home to us hobby racers that pedal old cars that just because it is the modern era, racing old cars is still a dangerous game. Without meaning to be flippant perhaps Stefan should be inducted into the Masten Gregory race car exit hall of fame - if there were such a thing. |

It does make one reflect on the way we drive at track days where nomex is not compulsory even if we might be in historic racers - sometimes with passengers. Stefan, it must be said was wearing his full kit.

Its a ritual and habit to put on all my kit when I drive on a race track . . . but where do you draw the line between test day and track day . . . not a fan of track days per se myself, but they do serve a good purpose
hopefully no lasting damage done to Stefan , or the car! |
