Winther should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Oh sad news indeed.
Dangerous place, but a classic never the less.

To put thing in perspective there are more deaths on the IOM roads, usually overseas visitors, after and before racing, than the actual races themselves, and you don't get calls for motorcycling to be outlawed (well not normally)

Very sad news David was my favorite rider. Always amazed me at how fast he pushed his bikes. He will be greatly missed. God speed David.

I even remeber when Isle of Man was a round for the FIM World Champ (from 50cc to 500cc!). It was too dangerous for that and lots of drivers payed the price. However, as an isolated race (Le Mans type) is is awesome. A true epic challenge.

I hope it doesn't disappear, but I pray every time I see it on TV...

I was beginning to like the Isle of Man TT races and David Jefferies. Man, another rider passed away. It will be the saddest week for the event.

It would be virtually impossible to make the TT circuit significantly safer. There have been many moves over the years to create a shorter circuit on the Isle of Man with the features of a road circuit, but without the street furniture, but there hasn't been the political will here on the island to bring it to fruition. IMHO it would have been possible to construct a short circuit that offered the same challenge and test of a rider's ability without the risks. Local feeling is that declining positive publicity for the TT, and declining visitor figures, could mark the end of the event, possibly after the 2007 centenary.

There are several short road circuits on the Isle of Man, including Jurby and Billown, as well as Peel used by the kart boys. There is also an airfield circuit at Jurby, but it's pretty flat and featureless. The other road circuits are just as hazardous as the mountain circuit. The TT was run on a very narrow circuit at the Clypse in the late 1950's but the track didn't have much appeal.
