Bodysnatcher has a real shot at the podium!Bodysnatcher has a real shot at the podium!Bodysnatcher has a real shot at the podium!Bodysnatcher has a real shot at the podium!
according to the information you got.
53 trainees
93 course
54 flag
33 fire/incident
17 IO
8 Obs/pc
11 X Obs/pc2
for the 26 trackside posts

plus
27 pits/startline
10 paddock/assembly

it even lists RL names

yet again touring cars pulls in an excess of trainees but a shortage of IO and above.

Oh good - does that mean that some of us get to 'play up' to a higher role this weekend?

nothing like a baptism of fire!!

By my calculations, they're outnumbered by about 4:1. IMHO, that's hardly an 'excess.' If anything, the large numbers at trainee/incident level bodes well for the future.

Fine, give me a means of communication and somewhere dry to write, and I'll get stuck in if that's what is needed.

Probably an accurate barometer of marshalling at the moment. The good thing about that is that we do at last have lots of trainees, some of whom will go on to be good I/Os in time, and if they're attending BTCC, they'll probably get lots of experience.

aye Guinness, you were on a rapid promotion path to 13a

but I knew what you meant. Likewise I meant that BTCC pulls in plenty of trainees (as ever) but fails to attract the support of the old boys or girls.

So here I disagree with Wooley, there's plenty of PCs & IOs around the Brands area, but the BTCC can be easier to deal with when it's on the TV screen and not in your face. There was an awful lot of contact in the little bits of the Rockingham and Thruxton races I saw.
plus this is weekend 4 of 5 in a row for cars at Brands...( I think), who needs BTCC meetings to gain experience?

edit - wow - just looked - the weekend of 15/16 May is the only non car racing weekend at Brands between April 10/11 and July 10/11

still, I'm looking forward to it

I wish i could attend every weekend race....But it all comes down to cost - petrol being the big sting.
So now i have to limit myself to 1 day and cut back on alott of meets shame...
Trainee,s are a good thing us old guys aint gonna be about forever we need someone to fill our boots....

I may have had tongue slightly in cheek for some of that . As an experienced marshal, BTCC is top of my list of meetings to avoid, I get the impression I'm not alone. For newer marshals, it's high up the list of things to attend. The driving standards ensure they're likely to have something to do.

I can understand those that don't want to do BTCC and wish them well.

Me? I was at the Rock last week and heading to Brands this weekend. I missed Thruxton this year and it was fantastic to meet up with all the marshals that I met at previous meetings. I can't knock BTCC: it was hearing an appeal for marshals at the opening round at Brands in 2008 that got me started.

I couldn't convince the boss to give me the extra night in the London hotel this week, so I'm hoping Dr JP doesn't mind me using his hospitality on Thursday night!! Should get some good pics on the Friday, though, never get the chance on the bank (too busy listening to my scanner )

Spectator at Thruxton (Forgot how frustrating that was lol), at Rock and will be at Brands, in fact think Snetterton and the last Brands are the only ones I am not doing this year, I think BTCC is like Marmite – Love Party or Hate Party – You Decide!

I'll be making my first ever visit to Brands on Sunday but on the wrong side of the fence after my son bought tickets for my birthday. It'll be strange not being in orange.

For me its the first time in orange at BTCC, have spectated many times before, but now have a job where I can get some weekends off.
Having said that I will be leaving the circuit on Sunday and going straight to work for a night-shift, I would advise that shares in pro-plus will be making a gain some time soon!

Bear in mind that it can take up to a couple of hours to get out after racing on Sunday (it wasn't quite that bad previously, but just be aware that it's a risk).

Thanks for the heads up. Luckily my boss will be there spectating so he might cut me some slack if I'm a bit late - fingers crossed.

Hope you don't get the rain we just had in North London, otherwise the campsite will be filling up in more ways than one. See you in the morning.
