The Ratepayer 400 (Queensland Style)
Ratepayers in the City of Ipswich will be paying to help keep the V8 Supercars at Queensland Raceway with the City and local developers sponsoring the QR round of the V8 Supercars.
The council says it is happy with the deal with local Mayor Cr Paul Pisasale saying that the sponsorship was a small investment in the long term future of the race and the region." The full story with further quotes from Cr Paul Pisasale is on the In Pit Lane website. |

Queenslanders are a funny lot.
Sure, they'll pay for the 1st event. But if they don't like it....... Remember the movie Deliverance? Enjoy the canoe ride.... |

Interestingly, a non commercial entity like the Benalla Auto Club has (and continues) to turn a profit from it's V8 Round without the need to seek a commercial sponsor. If I were an Ipswich ratepayer, I'd be asking questions of my elected reps, come the next council meeting ! I wonder how much coin the "local developers" can afford to be putting in, seeing as how these days digital photography holds around 90% of the market, and film is almost dead. |

Local developers = QLD Group?
They're not shy of throwing a dollar or two around. I think they also sponsor the Bronco's. Or at least used to. |

It's Ipswich. The demographic of Ipswich would probably be highly in favour of it. Last edited by Falcadore; 5 Jul 2008 at 23:07. |

This is not such a bad thing - infact its probably a good thing to have the local council on side like that anyway...
And I doubt Ipswich residents will get up in arms about it either, just quietly... |

S***, A local council supporting motorsport. Better run them out of town.
Seriously, about time. SIck of Tennis,Golf,Football-all four codes,BookClub,Play Group, etc, pick up any local paper and see how many get support fromCouncil, State and Fed, and then check where motorsport is. |

The "Race Offical" 300 @ Winton
Try this alternative point of view....
At a V8 round, there would be between 150 & 200 volunteer officials, that give about 27 hours (3 days x 9 hrs) of their unpaid time. The ABS lists the current average Full-time adult ordinary time earnings, Private Sector as $1097 P/Week. This is $27.45 p/hr. If you were to add a 20% casual loading to that, and pay the officials a flat rate for their time given, a Promoter would be up for a wages bill of somewhere in the vicinity of $130-150 K. Not an earth shattering amount, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that easy to find a single sponsor that would happily hand over a $150 K cheque to the promoter just before they tuck into their medium rare fillet steak, and Pepperjack Shiraz in the corporate suites ! GTR, what sort of value for a naming rights sponsorship of a sprint round ? So there is a novel concept, let's all push to have the Winton round unofficially christened the "Race Official 300". |
