JORDAN to use.....Cosworth next year , then Toyota from 2004
Peter Windsor has just said on Sky ..that he beleives that Jordan are near to announcing that they will use Cosworth engines for 2003 , and then for 2004 onwards they will be the 2nd team to use Toyota power.
Eddies been a busy boy by the sounds of it . But that would put Jordan on a good footing for the future . |

THE PLOT THICKENS .......
Eddie has now gone on record on SKY TV when questioned about this , as said as far as he is concerned will be using Honda engines next year . I think EJ is up to his old tricks . LIned up his power for the next few years , and is gonna get every last penny he can out of Honda in compensation ? He's playing games i think . But personally , i do beleive what Peter Windsor has said is probally more truthful than EJ's statement. |

Good move by EJ to get Cosworth engines for next year as it's clearly obvious Honda have no intention of staying with them.
But to get Toyota power in 2004 is, I find, a big surprise. I didn't think Toyota would give away customer engines. But good on them for doing it (if it's truthful). |

If the Toyota rumour is true, EJ has found a little pot of gold!!

I daresay that if EJ is using Cossies next year, Honda will be footing the bill as their 'get out of Jordan' clause.

I bet those Toyota Engines will cost EJ a pretty penny...
How does he know he won't want Cosworth Power for more than one year? Seems a bit illogical to say today that the Ford powerplants are not worth keeping for more than a year. 3 different engines in 3 different years! The chassis design team must be thrilled with that one... |

If its true though, at least he's putting in a plan that will give some lomg term stability .He can get next year out the way with a decent engine before starting off a new partnership with Toyota engines.
I think it is a good move . Toyota look like there going places in F1 , and even if EJ had engine that was 2 stages behind the works outfit , that would still be a very good powerplant . I think it could be a very smart move . |

Great so now Toyota will have their version of Sauber! Now there will be 2 teams that will NEVER win titles. Forget it!
How do we know that Toyota's motor is better than Honda's? |

I would say Toyota's engine is better than this year's Honda. But I guess as with everything, it's a gamble.

That is why I think Toyota is out of the question. Toyota will not want to chance looking like Jag. If the "supposedly weaker" Honda is quicker than the Toys, in a Jordan then imagine when they get the Toy motor. Then again what really makes sense in F1? Its unpredictability is the only predictable aspect of the sport. I personally still don’t believe the rumors. Honda has not said they will drop Jordan so everything else here is speculation. The way I see it no Honda team will be in contention next year so Honda will be better off using 2003 as another R&D year. Now in 2004 that is another issue.

according to Autosport....the Jordan/toyota deal could all rest on Takuma Sato
from www.autosport.com 'Silly season' reaches new heights in France Will Toyota bargain over Takuma Sato? There is understood to be substance behind links connecting Jordan to a Toyota engine supply - although not for next season. Toyota, it is believed, is interested in Takuma Sato for 2004. Sato, of course, is a Honda protégé who is currently driving for Jordan, to whom he is under contract for another four years. Jordan then, has something that Toyota would like, and Toyota has something that Jordan would like, namely an engine. The latest Honda offerings are not the units they were back in the mid eighties/early nineties and while all the talk earlier in the season was of whether Honda would renew with Jordan or go solely with BAR, perhaps the question should have been whether Jordan actually wanted to continue with Honda long term? The Hondas, of course, are free and nobody gives up a manufacturer deal, especially in the current climate. The speculation was that Jordan might actually push Honda towards concentrating on BAR if the Japanese would pick up the tab for a supply of Cosworths. Toyota is a much bigger player in Japan than Honda. It follows, therefore, that it will not want Sato, Japan's most promising driver yet, driving long term for Honda. The Toyota V10 is widely held to be the best engine in F1 behind the BMW and Ferrari and the deal Jordan is believed to be brokering is Sato for Toyota in 2004 in return for a three-year supply of Toyotas from 2004 to 2006. In the meantime, Jordan would continue with its Hondas in 2003. It won't harm EJ that the Toyota is the best-selling car in only one European country... Ireland. There we go again. Toyota is up to its tricks (if this is true). I have seen what Toyota has done to the sport of compact drag racing in the US. Hopefully the small axe (Honda) will fall the big tree (Toy).
If this is not true; who the **** would dream up such a horrific story. It would be like CART where Toyota talks about powering the title winning Target team. However Target Chip Ganassi won with Honda power. Now they will boast about bringing the best driver out of Japan into F1. I tell you they will win at all costs. Damn them! I need a beer. |
