So as long as it is deregistered, you can race it wherever you like around the world in whatever events you want to. So why all the BS about "sending chassis overseas limitations"? Deregister it, then put it on a plane and put it in the Penske museum. Simply.

Is this another case of "quiet day at the office today, better make a story out of nothing" ?

My thoughts exactly. STFU and reap the benefits of exposure and increase in VASC awareness overseas that a car in the Penske museum will bring.

Actually... reading the story Penske dont have any plans to send it overseas at the moment "Shell V-Power Racing hopes Scott McLaughlin's 2018 title-winning Supercar will enter the Penske Racing Museum in the US, even if no plans currently exist."

DJR Team Penske team principal Ryan Story said a relocation was "not something we're actively pursuing at the moment", but had been discussed.

I was a little confused by the whole story & thread after reading that.

Cars have been & will be sent O.S. Just at the end of their Supercars racing life, nothings changed there.

You'd be amazed the type of advantage a team like Penske, with all the available resources has over everyone else. Everyone is kidding themselves if you don't think a mustang body on a COTF chassis wasn't over in the US in a Wind Tunnel before all the homologation tests.

There's a massive difference between evidence and assumption though

Potential and probability might be the question to ask.

I don't think there's anything to stop a team putting a car into a tunnel before homologation. The rules state you can't use a tunnel, but no reference as to what point in the life-cycle of the car.

The Mustang would have had a tonne of CFD done on it, and then verified on track. But we have no idea what Ford Performance in the US did behind closed doors to verify CFD data.

However, with Supercars having clarified from 2016 that chassis must be built in Australia, the car had sat idle at Penske until Rushbrook’s request for a Mustang display car.
Also seeing Ford Head Office acknowledge their Australian racing efforts is long overdue.

Clearly it's spent 3 solid years on a shaker rig and the last 12 months in a wind tunnel.....

It seems like there's now people at Ford that actually give a damn. We should make the most of it while it lasts.

All manufacturers go through the ebb and flow of varying levels of interest in motorsport. All largely depends on who's steering the ship at the time. Some CEOs and managerial types see motorsport as a large waste of time and money, because it doesn't always directly translate to profit on paper. The smart ones are able to tie it into all facets of the business, and leverage like crazy. They employ Simon McNamara-type people to build passion for the brand through motorsport, and to facilitate with marrying up drivers, sponsors and teams.
