Do hope you guys had an enjoyable time in the deep south of NZ.
The FJ lap times would have won the main race a few years ago!
Are you going on to OZ?
Would be great to catch up in Melbourne........

Yes will be at Phillip Island for the Classic race there . Be fantastic to catch up with you and EB. I keep barking on but in nearly 50 years racing this has just been the best ever . Got to confess going down the pit straight with the wind pushing the car all across the track sure was scary . We have found someone with three MK1 Escorts in his back garden so popping round this morning to have a look . Hope everyone is OK back home . Kind of miss you guys but it’s great to keep in touch using tenths . Will report back in when I get to Phillip Island . PS . Bumped into a couple of marshal friends at the weekend which was nice . BTW I had the Penne. 👍

Racing is over for me until we get the car back to UK and sorted which won't be until end of April. In the meantime there's another 2 weeks to explore bits of NZ we haven't been to before and a week on Moorea doing very little. I suppose we'll cope somehow! Good luck to Iain for Oz, just seen container drive by, already on it's way home.

Colin, given so much time with so little to do and the fact the NZ is surrounded by water ... have you considered sailing or some other form of boating?

I'm told (by a racing spectator pal of mine who has a boat (no sails)) that it really IS great fun and probably marginally less expensive than racing. If you are lucky.

The version with sails and cabin accommodation may be less advisable.

Of course, living where you do you probably already know all this and perhaps have experience by which to judge the suggestion.

Anyway, Mallory testing on 25th April. Would that be a possible target date?

Mallory might be a little early as cars not back until middle of April, probably usual routine ie testing will be simultaneous with qually at first meeting😁
PS after the cold, windy, wet weekend it's now a balmy 24° with a lovely gentle breeze. Just off to the Bill Richardson Transport Museum, 300 trucks - going to enjoy this!

The results for FJ South Island Tour are out and they have placed me second. Not sure how this is worked out but will take the result . I am a bit lost with no racing for two weeks . We stayed at Queenstown for past two days . There is a brilliant Luge run there so I’ve had plenty of goes on that . My daughter boyfriend did bungie jump . “Bonkers or what “. We have now moved on to Milford Sounds and just enjoyed a boat ride around the mountains here . It’s all very nice but I would much rather be motor racing but don’t !!!!! Tell Mrs Delta that . Roll on Phillip Island .

Down in Teretonga the weekend started well, as Iain prepared to fit his spare carbs to the Gemini in a last ditch attempt to cure the Timaru problems (there was nothing else left). I decided to get in his way as best I could and grasping at straws removed the only panel left on the car, the cockpit coaming. This allowed access to the back of the dash and b*gg*er me! There's a loose connection on the master switch. This has never been a tight fit and every time it's turned on or off the switch moves slightly. I guess over time the constant side to side unscrewed the terminal. 2 second fix and we were back in business! I set off with high hopes as, with the exception of the last tight turn onto the start straight, I love the circuit. I can't remember how many laps I managed (2 or 3 I think) but the car felt good until the fast right hander at turn 2 where the assembled throng of mechanics and wives were gathered. I suddenly found myself spinning on the grass towards the tyrewall and thought I'd just got a bit too enthusiastic until I saw a wheel in the sky (where it's not supposed to be) dropping straight towards me. The car luckily stopped when told to and the wheel flopped in front rather than bounced which was just as well because both Mrs M & Delta and sundry friends were standing only about 20 feet away.

The LH rear hub had sheared but the car was otherwise undamaged. Locals pointed us towards a guy with a welding shop nearby "if anyone can weld it he can" but he wouldn't touch it saying it was too risky. The original was machined from solid, not fabricated, so he just tacked it together and we could at least move it around. And that, as they say, was that!

1. "At last! The car's flying!"
2&3. The autopsy
4. Blocked up, heading home
5. By a fortunate turn of fate a group of the drivers was standing by Alex's Lightning discussing my incident when Iain spotted a crack on the LH front wishbone. A dob of weld soon sorted it but what a stroke of luck!
