2020 Supercar Events

It will be interesting to see what happens now that a 500 person limit has been put on public gatherings. That is sure to put a big red hole on gate takings at the tracks running SC events. When some members of the teams get ill that will cause huge problems as well.

If you run without spectators, could a Supercars event work with less than 500 people?

Even then, as you say Casper, all it takes is someone in the paddock testing positive to throw a spanner in the works.

Here comes Phillip Island and maybe Queensland Raceway hahahaha - then again John Tetley & The Foxes may very well tell them to **** off - they are the sort of people to do that

Add in the support race paddock and bust goes the 500 people limit.

They could strip out all non essential personnel which might help with numbers.

Does the 500 person limit apply to the organisation and running of the event or the spectators or even a combination of everyone, the latter I would assume. It would now be safe to assume that motor sport just got shut down along with every other spectator sport especially if it involves body contact or repeated handling of say a cricket ball. Anyone want to buy a SC franchise? If this is going to be long winded expect permanent changes to the infrastructure of motor sport in Oz and overseas as well.

How is a non-Supercars Events promoter, eg..Winton, supposed to get anything out of a V8 round if no spectators are allowed?

The commonly held opinion is that after all the pennies are counted a single SC event does not make a huge amount of money for the promoter and it is the track days, track hire etc that creates the cash flow. SMSP is booked solidly every day for instance and as a multi venue site works well in that regard. The daily business of running the track may not be affected at all in fact. I used to be at Wakefield a lot during the week testing and developing and at times we were the only ones there.

News item last night mentioned Tasmanian government considering banning all events with more than 500 people attending.
I can’t see Symmons Plains running, NZ definitely won’t be happening.
2020 season might be decided on Adelaide results.

Hehehe. Well, back in the early days of the ATCC it was decided on a single race, let alone round!

The 500 limit would be stretched , if you include supports, catering, marshalls, media, set up, take down ,security, depending on the track, local staff , etc etc
the numbers can get up quickly.

Doubt it. Worldwide the max crowd numbers for events are getting lower, and I cant see them allowing a larger number for any events, indoor, outdoor, whatever.

The season is done. Let's all work on Gen 3 regs and come back with the new era next year. That's if there's a tv network left to sign a new deal with or an airline left to fly anyone around with.

Sport is just going to have to realize there are more important things in life right now and take a back seat.

Queensland Raceway seems to be making overtures for running a Supercar event, even though they are basically fully booked.

Equipped with lights now, a TV spectacle?

https://www.speedcafe.com/2020/03/17...bFKvCf9xJr6pQU

Obviously we know as fans the perilous state of some of the teams we follow in this sport.

I note with interest the VERY wealthy NRL already putting their hand out to the Government for a handout because they have clearly mismanaged their affairs. No doubt they will get it too.

Currently, Supercars has made no decisions regarding its plans for the remainder of the year.

I can't see where they have made any decisions on anything lately at all. Any event anywhere is a non starter under present rules so I guess they won't have to decide about this offer either.

Will depend on what force majeure provisions are contained in contracts. But much like all other professional sports, the lack of income is going to have a profound effect.

And not to mention Supercars being unable to fulfill their quota of TV hours under their agreement with Fox.

That is going to kill their cash flow if it is paid per event which seems a normal thing to do. I hope they have a big piggy bank.

New NT quarantine measures threaten Hidden Valley event and South Australia to close borders in response to coronavirus pandemic.

With the federal government making it fairly clear that it will be at least 6 months before we can expect any sort of normality to resume, probably not a case of if but when the whole season is cancelled. Although Supercars are adamant Bathurst's date is not able to be moved, think we will be lucky to see any action by then.
