the grid photo is a ats special saloon race cadwell 1976
I raced at Cadwell in the Escort in 1974. Jim Evans drove the car there in September 1976 but had to stop to remove a lose exhaust and continued to finish 10th. He was second on the grid behind Tony Dickinson's Escort who went on to win the race. However, Jim was a couple of seconds in the lead when the exhaust dropped off on the 7th lap.

Your dad was in the same race and finished 16th.

Yes Andy - the pinto was a bit gutless without the Turbo. Somewhere I have a photo showing Jim in the paddock directing Chris and me working on the car between practice and race. That typified Jim's approach - always looking for any slight improvement.
Jim let Chris and me have a go in his Turbo Escort. Chris raced the car at Aintree in 1975 or 1976 and was in 5th place when the clutch packed up. I only did a practice session in it at Croft and the power delivery was a lot fiercer than our FVC engine. Applying power out of the chicane was, err ........ interesting.

Jim Evans

I believe that at Cadwell Park he competed without a turbo in order to remain under the 2.0 limit there. With a turbo 1.4 factor it would have been the equivalent of 2.8.

When was the 2 lt limit introduced at Cadwell?

I think that is right because none of the results I have for Cadwell in the mid-70s show any saloon car over 2 litre.

I think that's why we let Jim drive our 2 litre car as he was doing well in the championship and I think he went on to win the Troy Tyres class if not the overall championship that year.

It would be interesting if anybody has championship tables for these years.

I think there has always been a 2 litre limit at Cadwell, on all classes EXCEPT
saloon and sports cars.

that would seem correct because I remember Gerry Marshall in his 2.5 lt Vauxhall and the Hazelwood Daf/Oldsmobile racing there.

Crikey I didn't know Vince Woodman pedalled a Camaro in the BTCC. I always though he was a Ford man until the Thunderloon days much later on?

And I also see the name Ingvar Carlsson down in the F3 entry, wondering if that's the same guy who later took up a successful rally career with Mazda with a bit of Touring car racing as well?

Vince Woodman's name caught my eye as well. Think I saw Eddie Jordan entered in Atlantic race.
Would it be of interest to anyone if I put the lap chart For the GP race on here? Think I copied from Autosport.
Andy.

I was there that day driving in the Super Saloons race. We were in the assembly area waiting to go out when the rain came that caused the F1 race to be red flagged.

Interesting to see that there were 30 entrants for the GP. Those were the days!

Andy, Jordan entered in the F3 race, Atlantic too? Isn't it amazing how little detail was put in the progs for that meeting?

So True... It's interesting how, some names which were so familiar at the time, have either disappeared altogether, or are still involved, but in totally different areas of the sport.

MINUTES SILENCE AT FORMULA 5000 MEETING.

Although the sheet is very old (1973) I am hoping that you can read it.
We had a request at this meeting for a minutes silence so that last respects could be paid to my dear old mate ROGER WILLIAMSON. I recall that you could have heard a pin drop.

A COUPLE MORE FROM THE OLD ARCHIVE.

1972 TRIPLEX CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND AT SILVERSTONE.
I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF APPROACHING DAVID HOWES ABOUT BUYING HIS AMC JAVELIN, AS IT HAD BEEN TALKED ABOUT RUNNING AN AMERICAN STYLE CLASS THE FOLLOWING YEAR. I DIDN'T DO IT.

I was a Marshall then and remember a Williamson tribute. As you say, total silence and much respect.

WEST ESSEX CAR CLUB AT SNETTERTON SUNDAY JUNE 17 1973

Searching in my loft, I found this set of papers, and it has all the info' about the meeting at Snetterton Sunday 17th June 1973.Interesting because it has the competitor list for: Formula Ford Formula V, Formula Libre, and GT & Sports Cars, but my bit is missing! NO Special Saloon entries!! Ah, well.
Take a close look at "Amendments to Awards" section, and you will see just how much we loved the sport!
Well, we certainly didn't do it for the money!
