Alan Curnow, Peter Baldwin, Richard Belcher, all drivers I saw in either Metro's or BTCC in the 80's too? Also I see two Taft's entered, Paul and Ray? I didn't know Paul had a brother (or Father?) who also competed? |

VINTAGE BADGE COLLECTION.
Unsure if this is the right page, but in the old stuff I came across this lot. I remember having a badge from MALLORY PARK each year, and I remember being a member of the MALLORY PARK CLUB. You will see they range from 1963 and amongst them are my RAC RALLY BADGE and year bars ( I loved marshalling on the rallies too). We belonged to a club called THE ONE NIGHTERS run by a chap called BRIAN FOX who ran a wood yard at Knowle in Warwickshire. You can also see my BRSCC and BARC members badges.
I would never part with these, they bring back such great memories. I find it really odd that Mallory Park don't have an archive? Or for that matter Silverstone either. So that the racers of today can go and see what it was like back in those days. |

From memory Greg & Paul were brothers. There was also a Richard Taft, didn't he race a Modsports Cobra in about 1970-71?

At the bottom of the libre entry on those Snetterton sheets there's a number 290 with a Lotus 69 but the name is partly cut off. What is the name of the guy can you give the engine capacity? I'm guessing that as he's not got a number in the F.Ford sequence that this is a real F3 or Atlantic 69 and it's not a name I've come across before Chris |

Hi, Richard Taft sold the cobra to pay for Mike Bigland to build a Tvr Tuscan to race in modsports, which was sold to Martin Lilley the owner of Tvr in March 72, Ted Worswick then raced the Tuscan for the factory, then in 73 Brian Hough took over as driver, sadly Brian was killed at Thruxton in Oct 73, regards Alan

12th ASTLEY TROPHY RACE MEETING. SNETTERTON 17TH JUNE 1973.
This is the Entry List for the 12th Astley trophy Race Meeting, held at Snetterton on Sunday June 17th 1973. I remember this day as one of the best dices I had in my twelve year career. I still have the MN report, which states "that this was the best race of the day". Richard long and myself were really on the limit on several occasions. I had the legs on Richard down the long straight as I was running a better diff ratio than him, but he pulled out of the corners faster. anyway, I digress, it was all a long long time ago.......
These are the Classes, and the Competitors for all the events of the day. Enjoy! Gerry. |

Hi Matey, don't just say it, do it, as these old pieces of paper from all those years ago are the history items of the sport. If you don't post them, they're lost, and that would be a pity. I shall post as many as I can find, as people like Chris are archiving the information that us old 'uns supply. All this should have been done years ago by the circuits and the magazines and MN, it wasn't so it's up to us. Get posting.

This is the REAL stuff of history, the stuff which validates memory and which eventually keeps it alive after you and I have popped off. Even the BARC, which has a decent archive, kept programmes and not official results or qualifying sheets. It will take many years of work to get the kind of records that I'd like to see, going all the way down to Formula Ford and even one-make saloon series, but if you consider something like British Formula Atlantic, where in 2003, when I started, all we knew was mostly the top 6 in every race, we now know complete entries, results and qualifying in 95% of those races. IMP Driver in photograph
Hi Bullet. Great stuff. You may want to know that the driver of the IMP behind your Grandad is the late NICK BIRCH who I had the pleasure of dicing with on many occasions. As you know I raced many times alongside your Grandad too, KEITH BARRINGTON. Keep them coming Bullet!

Think that's a good entry for the Modsports race. Andy |
