Gerry,

I am presently doing a collation of 1970s saloon car racing and i am taking the info that has been posted here to slot in with the programes and entries i have in my collection.

I am at the stage of the 1970 Osram and Hepolite-Glacier races. Andrew Kitson has provided entries for most of the Snetterton rounds i did not have .

If anyone reading this thread has entry list or results for any of these 2 championships in 1970 or 1969 even that would help my cause greatly.

This sort of information is invaluable to a historians of our sport , many thanks for the thread, it brings back memories to an old man .

Superb! That had me in stitches, you should get a printer to run off 100 of those with the quote on, it would look good on the wall of every race shop ! I'd stick one on the wall next to my desk, if I had a wall next to my desk....

Great entry there Gerry. My best school mate at the time's Dad was vaguely involved I think with the Edges, David & Ray. David used to park his Mini on a trailer outside my mate's house in Leicester Forest East quite often at that time. And Terry McNally lived a mile or so up the main road, A47, so I used to see that quite often too!

If I remember correctly the John Macdonald 1 litre Anglia ran a SCA engine as opposed to the MAE based engine of the others.

Hi Guys, Yes, David & Ray were from Walsall/Aldridge and were quick mini drivers, Ray I believe equalled my short circuit Mallory record, or was it David ( wonder where they are now?). Your right, the late Terry McNally lived at Kirby Muxloe.
John McDonald used an F.3 BRM unit as far as I recall. Wonder whatever happened to him too? A quick driver, that used to give Roger Williamson a chase for the first few laps wherever they appeared; that's John in that Thruxton Youtube video behind Roger. Then he just left the racing game, as far as I remember....unless someone knows better?

The SCA was a SOHC unit built and developed by Cosworth based on the Ford 105E motor for the old one litre F2. Amongst others, BRM, Honda, and BLMC ST also developed motors for this formula. I believe that John MacDonalds' one litre Special Saloon Anglia used the BRM motor, which might have been based on the Ford bottom end, as I think it was a stock block formula- I'm not sure.

I'd always thought that John MacDonald became the MacDonald in Ralph MacDonald Racing, formed with Mick Ralph, which later became RAM Racing, who ran a quasi-works March F1 operation, but I might be wrong in this....

By the way, surely this really belongs in the Special Saloons thread?

That was the same John MacDonald.

F2 engines 1964-1966 were pure racing engines, not stock block, so BRM's P80 F2 engine was custom built, sharing the 2-valve head design of the P56 F1 engine. But is that really what MacDonald used?

Allen, that all makes perfect sense to me. I know the SCA was a stock block, and I'm pretty sure the BMC motor was too, which was what made me wonder whether it might have been a stock block formula.

I've always thought of John MacDonald's Anglia as having been an Anglia-BRM, so unless anyone knows any different....

ESSO UNIFLO SPECIAL SALOON CARS UP TO 1.LITRE.

Hi everyone, just to get the page back on track, here are a few names from way back. In fact Monday April 15th 1974, the BRDC Championship Races, of which the ESSO UNIFLO was one of the events. Someone has kindly put the times in of the winner ( Ray) and as you can see it was the usual suspects listed as well.
I am also including from the same programme, the list of LAP RECORD HOLDERS at SILVERSTONE in that year.
Enjoy!

Race sheets for Modsports 68/69??

Hi Gerry,
I was wondering if you have any race sheets containing the car/driver detailed below:

The car was owned by Barrie Anderson and raced in Modsports in 1968/69. He raced at the following tracks with other drivers such as John Chatham and John Gott. The race tracks are as follows:

I have some scrutineers passes and some plaques with the following info:

Scrutineers' Passes

Brands Hatch April 7th 1969 Scrutineer "Peter H Williams – a little faded"
Brands Hatch Sept 29th 1968
Brands Hatch Dec 27th 1969 Scrutineer "J J Marsh – a little faded"

Winners Plaques

1. Brands Hatch AHC (E.C.) SPRINT June 1967 1st Class A
2. Brands Hatch AHC (E.C.) SPRINT June 1967 1st Class B
3. Brands Hatch AHC (E.C.) SPRINT June 1967 1st Class C

Kind regards,
Rob

Pete,

I started racing in 1969, but it was not until 1970 that I really got going and competed in several of the under 1000 cc Hepolite Glacier rounds.
850 Mini in black with white pin striping (a certain Escort also ran the same scheme !!). Being Chelmsford, Essex based, most of my racing was done at Mallory, Brands, Silverstone and Snetterton. I still have somewhere all the old programmes and photographs and now my house rebuild is nearly at an end I will endeavour to find them, do some copying and post some information that may be of some help.

I do wonder if my old Mini is still about. I still have the log book and it was never scrapped. Sold it to a chap near Aylesbury if I remember correctly.
Would love to buy it back and race super saloons again.

Handsome finders fee to any one who can trace it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
