I didn't make it, but by all accounts a good event. Any comments from our posters on this forum?

The show gets better each year, I went on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed the whole event.
A very varied set of stands and exhibitors, lots of well know motor sport personalities wandering about and lots of excellent machinery on display. For any one with a credit card or two there was plenty to run up the balance on. Memoribilia, equipment, photos, paintings, accessories etc. Club stands manned by enthusiasts were a joy to visit as long as you did not ask questions of the wrong person. some people are VERY enthusiastic about there pet subjects.

Traffic was no problem and the entry cost very reasonable.

Come on chaps! 10/10ths types really should be supporting ventures like this.

If anyone wants a painting of their favourite car/driver David Burke from Aylesbury appeared like a good chap to approach and you could find yourself on a client list that includes Stirling Moss and Nicky Hayden to name but two.

I did 2 days helping to staff the FISC (Spridgets in Europe) race series stand - an excellent show, plenty of interest and a couple of new people signed up already. Lots of familiar faces, in fact at one point I thought it might descend into a giant social I also managed to stock up on cheap consumables, and of course I didn't have to pay to get in, bonus

somebody should merge all the threads together - I havent been before and thought it was a perfect way to start the new season - caught up with a lot of mates and made some good new contacts. Found a new series to race my Lotus Cortina in and an insurance company who should be cheaper than Aon for transit and storage insurance for that and the Merlyn so very happy with the show!

As this is the Historic racing today part of the forum and Stoneleigh was the Historic Motorsport show I'd suggest here is as good as anywhere, although it does cross with racers forum ?

We'd need to consult a specialist to merge threads, all I can merge is my memory !

Totally agree with everything said above. If you're into any form of historic or classic motorsport, this show really is a must. It's a show for the REAL enthusiast and you really need 2 days to see it all, discounting the time you spend 'bumping into people you haven't seen for years"!

This show is for me far better than the NEC show. If you like the modern day 'Autosport', 'Max Power' the BTCC and modern F1, go to the NEC. If you buy 'Motor Sport' or go to the revival and other historic meetings, Stoneleigh is definitely the one for you. It has been said many times before but this show has the feel of the good old fashioned Racing Car Shows in London. Many familiar faces from the world of historic racing were everywhere at Stoneleigh, especially on the Friday. I heard Willie Green was there, did not see him myself but great to hear of him up and about.

It gets busier each year, I've exhibited at all three now, this was by far the best. The organisers however need to allow themselves an extra day on building the marquees etc, as our stand was not even built until 5pm on the Thursday set-up day! It may have to move if success continues to a bigger venue. I've heard whispers that Haymarket have noticed the continued success, rumours persist of a buy-out. If they do, please leave it alone...historic racing is fine with its own show!

In fairness I moved the original from here because I hoped it would reach a wider audience. (Yes I know I'm not a Historic mod but I have certain "powers" Buwahahahahaha).

Now what was it my physics teacher told me, Power goes to a vacuum? I could be wrong!

On the matter of Stoneleigh I think it was marginally better than last year which considering it has only been going three years and it has improved eash year is pretty remarkable.

I could only manage the Friday and as I was also picking up my "new" Lotus I was a bit distracted! Hope to do two days next year!

Where did this thread appear from? Come to think of it, where did this forum appear from? I guess the old historic forum got cut in half at some point but I was unaware it had happened so didn't know about this new/old forum.

Why the changes?

Allen

Allen, you must keep up; you haven't been around much for a month or so!

Well, why not? Although linked, the split represents two quite different aspects of motorsport and I think the descriptions for the two on the Forum page clearly clearly identify this.

I've started a new thread for the split forum discussion, so back to topic. Can anyone tell us of any notable cars on display, interesting stands, or whether they bumped into any drivers that we might see out in historics this coming season.
