The Bugatti Veyron
I'm sure you all will have heard of it/seen it. The Veyron's been around for years in various stages of concept form. However, this is more likely than not to be the final production spec version. And yes, it's pretty awesome.
Some Stats. Top speed: 252mph 0-60: 3.2secs Eight litres. Sixteen cylinders (mounted in a W). Four turbochargers. 4WD. 987bhp 922lb/ft torque. Price: E1,000,000. It will be easily the fastest production car in the world. It has 360bhp MORE than the McLaren F1. It has a 7-speed gearbox with TWO clutches, and yet no clutch pedal. Because one of the clutches is in contact at any one time, gearchanges should take no time at all. To go higher than 186mph you need to ring up Bugatti. They will come over with some special high speed wheels and tyres, fit them and take off the limiter. However, this car got some pretty negative press. I reffer particularly to last month's Evo. It has 4WD. Now, no official weight figures have been released, but for a car to have 4WD, the emphasis clearly isn't on loosing weight. That's what was so great about the McLaren. It was fast AND great to drive. it was CHALLENGING to drive. The Veyron will be a peice of ****, and thus potentially uninvolving. A great tool, massively capable but not much FUN. Like an Audi. Who happen to own Bugatti. In fact there were accusations that the Veyron was a "monster" out to claim the crown of fastest production car and not much else. A car only interested in statistics. A kind of automotive Jordan (the MODEL, you idiots ). So. Do you WANT one?? Do you NEED one?? Me?? Yes. Of course!! But I'd have an Enzo too. I'd need a super car, not just a supercar. |

Oh, don't worry, the spoiler does fit flush. It even protrudes further on massive stalks to make a WING as opposed to a spoiler that you see above.

Well. NO. That's my problem with this car. It's going to weigh shedloads, I BET you.
However. I hasn't got a V8. It's got a W16!!! WITH FOUR TURBOS!! Last edited by Bluebottle; 2 Feb 2003 at 21:49. |

Looks like ****.
And no, I can't be more descriptive than that. I'd have to look at it again to do that, and I don't want to do that. |

So what is the fastest production car in the world? I thought it was the Tiger twin motorcycled kit car thing. i know it beat the F1.

For the purposes of the "fastest production car" record, Tiger are going to build enough 'turnkey' examples of the car to qualify as a production car.

Bluebottle you beat me to it! You can order a Tiger ready built therefore it is a production car. they also had to do all that expensive crash test stuff.

I'm sure I heard that potential buyers had to obtain a special licence for this thing. From NASA. |

I'd take it, but that engine seems unruly, a w16? 4 turbos, how do you maintain that thing? Of course money is no object. But I 'd rather Buy a Cadillac 16- a V16 1000BHP 1000 lb.ft. torque and its a pushrod motor I can change the oil myself!

Does anybody know anything about the engine? Do the connecting rods locate on the crankshaft side by side or do they use master connecting rods on each crank pin with the two others attaching to it?

I look forward to the day that the technological features that make the Veryon so fascinating, are included in cars such as the Perouda Nippa and Nissan Micra.
