Ferrari 360's Enter The ALMS GT Class

I hear that two or three ferrari 360 Modenas will be entered in the GT class of the ALMS series this season.

Does anyone think that they can beat the Porsche 911's in this class ?

The race after Sebring is the first North American race (as opposed to Sebring, which is really a worldwide tuneup for Le Mans). So, this year, Mexico's entry list should feature teams that are going to (try to) run the full ALMS season.

JMB and Risi have both entered 2 Modenas, as well as ACEMCO has entered 1. (Also, one Lambourghini!) GT is definitely looking interesting this year.

The problem is that the 360 is more expensive than the 911, and is still lacking some in the power departement in relation to the Porsche.

If Ferrari can lower the price (which would likely happen if more and more are sold) and raise the power slightly, Porsche might have to buddy up to the ACO or something because the 360 has enormous potenial as a Porsche beater. And unlike the phantom V8 M3 or the Callaway "Can't get an entry for Le Mans" Corvette, the Ferrari's might have a harder time leaving.

Even though the Ferrari is more expensive, it does have a much higher resale value that the Porsche. Gentlemen drivers like that...

Sure it's theoretically possible.

Here's hoping we see the 350Z by Petit!!!

The 360s should have better acceleration. Whether or not they can get these little monsters up to their potential is still to be seen. The Modena is closer to what would be ideal for a racecar than the 911. The 911s have been run for so long by so many, and it keeps itself alive. Also, the better GT teams and drivers are in the 911s, I think. It's not just a question of beating the 911, but more like beating Alex Job and Racers Group.

Actually, it has worse acceleration than the GT3-RS. Same weight, less torque. It also has lower top speed due to less peak power and its aerodynamics. Funny enough, it makes up time under braking, something one would think the rear-engined Porsche would be better at.

If Ferrari can get that motor up to Porsche-level power, then it should be competitive. It certainly seems to be better balanced than the Porsche in fast corners.

I know it's getting beat, but shouldn't. The V-8 is a much more torquish engine, but that's just on the street. It's up to the teams to get the 360 up to it's full potential, at which point it WILL be 911 killer. Problem is, the 911 has a thirty year head start.
