Thruxton 40th Anniversary Meeting

We don't seem to be discussing this but it is an important event in as much as the circuit is still going (with church breaks etc.) and has provided some seriously good entertainment over the past 40 years. I think the 70's were possibly the best.

However there's a full programme of events for the Sunday and Monday. Who's entered and whos watching?

Timetable here: http://www.themastersseries.com/reso..._timetable.pdf

I'm marshalling it from my usual seat at pit lane entry, and looking forward to seeing some great machinery.

Sadly, the weather forecast is not that hot over the weekend (bring your thermals!!!!), but aside from that it looks to be a great programme.

I think they should have run the F5000s too. I recall some great races in 74 to 76.

There were also special saloons.

The weather? No matter what the weather did I always came away with a red face from wind burn!

I love the place - but have onlt every raced there once in all my years racing!

The Two Sportscar series I have raced in over the years hardly ever go there - MADNESS.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...07959468444664 Great Track - Big Balls. My one visit did end up with the Fastest lap round there by any TR though (sure it will go if the Thoroughbreds go back ther though!).

Gerry Marshall leads the first lap and then has a great scrap with Roy McCarthy for the lead while showboating. Lots of sideways action out of the Esses.

Well done to the Top Hatters - great cars, great racing, proper 4 wheel drifts through Church and some scary angles of lean and direction.

Commiserations to the Masters guys - that start shunt must have been expensive.

See you and a few more hopefully at Donington next month!

Sports racing Masters ? there where barely enough cars on the grid to have a shunt!

saloons looked incident free, looks odd seeing LC's at the back of the grid/results, shame the rain backed off for the minis

Really enjoyed the F2 races, brought back lots of memories from my youth

The Top Hat, Healey and F2000 races were also good entertainment.

Anyone know how the spectator who seemingly got hit by a flying wheel at the chicane is ?

Looking at the times Top Hat seem to be doing CTCRC Group 1 times at the front which is slower than one would expect. I wonder if that will be reflected at Snett and if so does it mean they've "retuned" the engines to FIA spec?

Agreed from the info available the grid for SRM was small. What happened?

Thanks for the info John. we had moved to the complex for the afternoon races but the PA mentioned the flying wheel. I assume it happened at the beginning of the chicane and vaulted the debris fence.

SRM race, polesitter Richard Meins spun his t70 spyder as he crossed the startline on the rolling start, this then took out two gt40's and a lotus 23b.All three cars ended up in the barriers, the 23 survived with minor damage, both gt40's badly damaged with destroyed front subframes and front bodies.the t70 came out worse with damaged tub.
The accident was not helped by the idiot in the cooper maserati doing the biggest jump start possible on a rolling start .He was almost at the front row as the leaders crossed the start line

61p It beat the cooper and was very spectacular being sideways from the chicane to the pitlane entrance almost every lap, but still an idiot for the start.I was watching from the outside of the chicane and saw the whole accident.

Expensive stuff! In fact it was not a good weekend for car damage; there were some big accidents at Oulton as well; one of which apparently made the national news. Early season rust/enthusiasm? At least there were no serious injuries.

Yes, it was a wheel off a Healey.

No, there was only one that went into the crowd, and this was on the exit from the chicane. It rolled alongside the car on the track for some 50 metres before touching the tyre wall and bouncing. I know the car went straight to scrutineering to be checked over as a result of the failure. The spinner (sorry guys, don't know the correct name for the piece) was still attached to the wheel so presume some form of stub axle failure.

To all the drivers that took part, thanks for the entertainment. I know zero degrees and snow/sleet/rain on Sunday morning wasn't funny to qualify in, but you could see the effort being made by all. Made some interesting grids, in some ways a shame that the track came back to the muscle cars by the end of the meeting (we had a Mini qualify on the front row of one race in front of Mustangs and Falcons!). Respect to all.

Said mini (which set a faster time than his Lola T70 spider...it was wet)
