Oil Filters

Just been talking oil filters with a mate. He wants a inspectable filter, A few years ago I used to work on a race car that had a flat disc type filter, which you could dismantle and check its filtering medium for debris, clean and reuse, I think it was possibly Swedish made,
Anybody know of the thing I am talking about??
