wow, 3x 12 lap races in the Great Sandpit.

Wonder if they are glad to be going still?

Whoa, its good that they get to be in front of the F1 crowd but at the prevailing appearance fee I make that around $30k per lap they are being paid!

All the teams should agree not to go and pay the "no show" fine.
The money they save from not going on the "mickey mouse" trip should pay for the fine itself.

i would have thought you would be happy, this is what you and a number of otehrs on here have been asking for.

Bersides can kelly racing afford the million dollar plus fee for not attending, plus the lack of income they receive from Abu Dhabi for attending.

I was told in July it would be 2 x 35minute races, at least there will now be 3 chances for chaos at the start.
20 min qually with three best laps to count. 1.56.4 was pole time last year, if you want to go with three sets of tyres to get your best laps then it looks like you will nearly have to do a pole time on your out and in laps as well!

Btw the teams do not "pay" to go, they are "paid" to go.

Supposed to be about $30k per REC.

I wasn't aware other support categories got paid money to travel half way around the world and race

Well there we go Karma certainly does bite

That lap time (1.56.4) was for the shorter (4.7k compared to 5.5k) track they will use this year. F1 cars are doing 1.40 around the track the V8 are using this year so the V8s will be doing 2.09 or so.

Even less likely to get three runs then, so they will have to bank a couple at the start. out, timed and in, will add up to around 7 to 8 mins if they look after the tyres, won't go three times.
Better have them tuned to a stand still cos no one is getting any adjustments in.

Veggie [iV8SC12R24,R25&R26] Abu Dhabi - 2-4 Nov

So... it seems the Abu Dhabi race is full of surprises...

A new format.. that may or may not make sense...

1x 20 minute qualifying session. Where the 3 fastest laps of each driver are used to determine their placing in R24, R25 & R26.

So the punters on track, or on the web, or on the teev will have no idea what's going on until someone puts the 3 grids together.

Worse than that is the fast laps will likely have to be after one another, not allowing a lot of time in a 20 minute session to get a laptime, pit for new rubber, then go again

Then we get 3 races. 2x soft tyre, one hard tyre. 12 laps each. 100 points for a win.

So 36 laps = 300 points.. the same as at Bathurst

No pitstops, tyre changes, strategy... just go hard for 12 laps.. and that's it

Anyone see any carnage coming??

Meantime, who is going to win?

#1 would be hard to toss... although their lucky rabbits foot cant work forever surely

Not that long ago I drove to Winton to see the V8s do 3x20 minute sprint races...
So did plenty of other fans.

Fairly common format until quite recently.

I'm thinking it wasnt 2004, as per your signature, it must have been back in the 90's?

Shouldn't be too much of an issue for KR.

Dust off the Dreamtime Racing Krate, de-tune it to suit the budget, give it some fresh stickers, and fly it to the Middle East.

You know what is even stupider than 3 x 12lap races, there is no other ****ing support categories racing in Adu Dhabi so it is not like they are short of time to run over there...

I know they've had one of the Porsche Carrera series there in previous years.

So, they really are using the GP layout? Now, if they could just bypass that silly chicane before the first back stretch (and even if they did, they'd still be at least 20s off the F1 times).

Turn 1 at Abu Dhabi has paved run-off. Besides, the real problem on the first lap in previous years has been that turn into the infield bit to short-cut the full GP loop. Using the GP loop, they avoid that entirely, and I think the chicane should go rather more smoothly, with the field a tad more spread out, and a less acute apex at the end of that section. If they overcook it, they can just go straight on at the entry of the chicane, and rejoin at the hairpin.

Are they using the F1 Starting grid or the one half way up the second back straight? I would assume they are using the second pit lane.

Well apparently the teams are still intending constructing their pit booms.. for what reason is unclear... unless it rains, or a car gets a flat tyre.. there isnt a reason to do so..
