Dan Rear should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Judging by the size of the rear wing on Roe's car, the ground effects don't seem to be working too well. Or is my techy knowledge missing something!

Well the actual single element of the rear wing is quiet small, what is huge are the sideplates which were the support for that single element as well as being part of the ground effects tunnels.

Several of the B47/48/49s that made it into Speed Events used plywood for the end plates and at one meeting (New Brighton) a B48 sideswiped part of the street furniture destroying the two side plates. A quick trip to B&Q was then made during which the driver purchased a sheet of ply and a saw. On his return a new rear wing was effectively constructed, the car was then re-scrutineered and he was back on track.

John Lewis appears with a car later in the season which may be built outside the series [he was mechanic at the works] or a rebuild of a McMahon car

So ten or eleven built if we include Lewis as a new car.

Chris[/QUOTE]

It would appear that the John Lewis B47 was built up from a B43 according to this linked list.

List based very closely on the data of Formula One Register...
The actual plate on Lewis's B47, we now know from a 1979 annotated programme, was that of an ex Briggs Racing B42!
