I'd been sat on the fence for a long time on the issue of electronic ignition but I must say, having tried to run cars this season legally and experienced too many failures of components that cost less than a few quid and that are no longer manufactured to decent standards, I'm all for a certified FIA electronic ignition solution that everyone can run going forward.

We are not running in championships, looking to make livings from historic racing or looking for a career as historic drivers. Especially in a world of recession and dire economics. This is a hobby for 99% of us and the other 1% are either very fortunate or delusional.

But I'm not the only person out there getting sick and tired of towing our cars all over Europe to race (and have fun), trying to stay within the word of the regulations (actually there are not many of us doing that!!) and having cars fail due to poor components made in the third world letting us down.

Something has to change.......

Is there someone in the FIA looking at the historic racing world willing to be sensible????

Welcome to the club Roger,in answer to your question RE the FIA,in short, No,they will not allow any electronic ignition to be fitted,"All part of Historic racing,if there is a problem you have to drive around it or race another car",sensible? I think not.
As has been said before hand,a unit that was aurthorised by the FIA,nothing trick, just a points replacement ,simple unit, would be ideal, although I recon Peter and I got lucky this year,it was the alternator bracket that broke and not the LT wire into the points that went.

I could not agree more, the problems that are raising there heads we never experianced when points, condensers, rotas ets where manufactuerd to decent standards.OK,so Lucas was known as the black night by the yanks, but I have just fitted the third rota arm to my XK150 and have got so p####d off that I have now invested in a complete new electronic ignition system, may not be original but hopefully I wont be the laughing stock when a third world inferior set of points or rota fail after a few weeks use, normaly at the most inopportune moment and the car wont start,(outside my grandaughters school).

If you still have the rotor arm in there it will fail sooner rather than later, for a decent rotor give us a ring on 01789 266851 and we will sell you a good quality one made in Europe

Ron M made the point at the Thursday meeting that a questionnaire would be coming out which among other things will include these kind of questions. I was somewhat disappointed to note that some of the attendees would go further and have engine mapping etc. which frankly puts the whole thing beyond me.

But electronic ignition if incorporated into the Masters regs would solve a lot of problems, including that of the few spectators who must get bored with no shows or worse retirements.

WE used to have this discussion back in the 80's in 750 MC. As long as its a single point electronic ignition system ie Luminition. Then let it in and all move on.FIA FJ are allowed so whats the problem.

Terry's Teddy Pilette impression lacks the dented front wing. It's a shame there's none from Blanchiment, because I know I got pretty sideways through there on a few occasions, hence the suspension rebuild this year.

If I'd had followed Ken through I think the guy in the White Porsche would have changed that!
