Lister Storm LMP aero figures

Andy Thorby mentioned for his car an L/D from 4,81:1 ( peak better than 5:1). This is really impressive. The Toyota GT-One reached 3:1 ( Le Mans version), the Bentley Speed 8 4:1 and the new Dome S102 4,3:1. So on the paper the Lister had the best aero package but on track the performance wasn't as good. The lack of engine power is clear but was this the only reason.
What do you think?

A combination of many features of the cars aero/ suppneion / engine / driver package makes for a fast car.

Just because a car has a geat aero does not mean it will be the fastest or last the distance.

The pre-hybrid Lister was a pretty good car, IMO. The major letdown was the Chevy engine, which was way down on power compared to the opposition. Despite this, the car was reasonably competitive in the 2003 Le Mans 1000km, and I seem to remember it wasn't too shabby in the following year's Silverstone 1000km.

The engine was most definitely the weak link - I read on DSC at the time that it was only making 530 bhp - probably some 60-70 down on the Judd powered opposition, and the deficit to the Audi was probably even more.

The hybrid version of the car was absolutely awful though. Andy Thorby had no input on the hybrid as far as I'm aware. The aero on it never really worked at all - the downforce was there but too much drag. Every time the car appeared it seemed to have a different front end, it seems that Laurence Pearce was desperately seeking a way to make it competitive.

Incidentally, does anyone know what the current status of Lister is? I heard that their Pescarolo project was canned and that they may have shut down for good, but I've never seen an official announcement about it.

Pearce always reckoned he had an aero as good as anyone's, and said before 2003 le mans that with a competitive engine they wouldve beaten the audis for straightline. But however nice the front ducts looked, passing air to the engine through them wasn't ever gonna work
