Malcolm Smith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Raymond Boyd was fastest qualifier at a wet Knockhill circuit on 7th April.
The traction of his Porsche 911 kept him one second ahead of John Kinmond’s Rover SD1.
Bruce Mitchell was third in a Lotus Europa.

Race one winner, Alistair Baptie, MGBV8, managed the conditions best, finishing ten seconds of Boyd. Mitchell maintained his third place. First time out for Alasdair Coates’ Shelby Mustang GT350, in fourth, Mario Ferrari Alfasud 5th, followed by William Conway’s Mini 1275GT in sixth place.

In the second race, Boyd took an early lead which he maintained until ending up in the hairpin gravel on the last lap. Baptie won, well ahead of Kinmond, who started from the back of the grid after clutch problems ended his first race prematurely. Coates took third from the Lotus 7 of Keiron Baillie, just ahead of Ferrari and Conway.

MG midget driver Michael Longstaffe was seventh. Mitchell’s eight place was the result of an excursion into the gravel at Scotsman corner. First time in Future Classics for Andrew Elliot, Mazda MX5, 9th finisher and Duncan O’Neil, first of the XR2s was tenth.

A welcome returnee was Donald Laird, Lotus Elan, after several years in CSCC and racing in HSCC historic Formula Ford.

Also new to this championship were Ian Crehan, Mazda MX5 and Gary Taylor, Fiesta XR2.

Twelve Classics entered for this weekend's reverse direction event at Knockhill.
Lots of races for modern cars too!

I have two tickets available free of charge - first come first served - please send PM by 2pm Saturday, so that I can arrange to leave them at circuit for collection.

Raymond Boyd, Porsche 911, came second, followed by Bruce Mitchell, Lotus Europa, who was just ahead of Ian Crehan, Mazda MX5.

Boyd took first place in race two, over twenty seconds ahead of Kieron Baillie in a Lotus 7.
Mitchell and Crehan were third and fourth respectively.

First time out for the Lotus Esprit of Andrew Kinmond, who retired in race one but was able to complete race two.

An entertaining day for all at Knockhill on 23rd June. Michael Longstaffe (MG Midget) and Craig Houston (Lotus Excel) were very evenly matched in both races, the MG just ahead at the end of each. Similarly close competition in the XR2 category, three cars from Duncan O’Neill’s fleet all posting similar lap times. One class win for O’Neill and one for Jimmy Crow, invited to drive an XR2 while his Ford Escort is being repaired.

Fastest qualifier was John Kinmond (Rover SD1) from Bruce Mitchell (Lotus Europa).
Third went to Andy Walker (Mallock Type R), on his first visit to the track this season.
Unfortunately, he was unable to convert his excellent qualifying to race success, retiring early in race one.

Alastair Baptie (MGBV8) won both races from Kinmond, with Mitchell in third place.
Mario Ferrari finished fourth on each occasion, followed by Longstaffe and Houston.
Andrew Elliot (Mazda MX5) took two seventh places, with the XR2 drivers the remaining finishers.

Mechanical difficulties caused William Conway (Mini) and Andrew Kinmond (Lotus Esprit)
to retire from each race, hopefully they will enjoy a full day’s competition at the next event.

During 20th and 21st July, the next three rounds of the championship will take place
at Knockhill.

Bruce Mitchell is the 2019 champion. The Lotus Europa driver, from Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire, completed every race this season and is a popular winner amongst drivers and spectators.

Mario Ferrari, Bruce’s friend and neighbour, was second overall in an Alfasud Sprint. Third place went to Michael Longstaffe who drove an MG Midget.

At the final meeting, held in damp to very wet conditions, John Kinmond, Rover SD1, won the first race from Mitchell, with Alasdair Coates’ Escort RS 2000 third.
The second race victor was Alastair Baptie, MGBV8,followed by Kinmond and Coates.

Several drivers joined the XR2 category in tribute to their late friend and XR2 champion, Martin Ramsay.
