Although I never got to see him race, being but a baby and all, I have read a lot about Elio and he is one of those guys that was too nice, too amiable to be killed in such an horrific way. RIP
I have just bought a model of Elios last car to mark the sad anniversary. |

I remember a Brands Hatch GP when Elio was driving for Lotus. I and several other Pit marshals were in the Pit when a Royal and other VIPs turned up to be introduced to the team. Elio came over to chat with us, when we asked why he didn't want to be introduced, he just smiled, shrugged his shoulders amd said something like "let the others have the glory". A true gentleman.
