Oaksnaf should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Targa Tasmania 2007 April 17-22

Well it hasn't taken long for the Targa to creep up on us, but it is here!

There are many interesting cars in the huge line-up varying from Gallarado's to FIAT 600's. There is even an Aston Martin Vantage.

There are quite a few 'name' drivers competing, Richards, Bates, Simonsen, Longhurst, A Miedecke.

And a couple of celebrities, Ridge, Bana, Denyer.

Who has been before? What is the event like as a spectator?

It poses to be an interesting event with plenty of cars.

Don't forget Paul Stokell in the other JCW Cooper S! Tad slower than the Gallardo he drove there
Former state racer Tim Hendy in his Daytona Coupe and I heard Ric Shaw was entering in his RX7.
I haven't run myself but I know two people who have and they really enjoyed it, the organisers asked one of them to change their cars spec's so he hasn't been back since but sounds like an event you gotta do in your lifetime! Eric Bana's Falcon Coupe was at Phillip Island Historics earlier this year and what a beast!
Is Glenn Ridge running his RX7 SP?

Commercial

Can't get too excited with the way it has been treated on free to air TV in the past. Started out great...then squirriled away for marketing purposes and the public don't get to see it untill weeks later ....boo hiss

I see Jim Richards has gone for a 2 wheel drive NA car this year...I thought we would see a 997 Turbo but it seems the track special 997 GT3 RS is his choice of weapon. Can't wait to see how he goes

Going slightly off topic here but did anyone notice the pre event publicity piece in the Herald Sun the other day with Eric Bana & his XB (or was it an XC) Falcon he's running??

The Mad Max reference had me thinking over the weekend that Eric would make an excellent replacement for Mel Gibson if the rumoured Mad Max 4 is made although I hope it's more Mad Max 1.5 in time scale.

Anyway back on topic.

Would love to see Simonsen turn in a stellar performance here, he's a real star in tarmac rallies given that it's not his #1 discipline. In fact, I gather he his planning to curtail rally activities after the Targa to refocus on circuit racing so it would be doubly nice to seem him go out with a bang.

Nope, didn't see anything like that. Last night on one of the Current Affairs shows they did a piece on his Targa participation.

The car is an XB.....Looks nice in red. Last time I saw it it was Diamond White which I prefered, when he entered it in Classic Adelaide a few years back.

I also agree with your Mad MAx thoughts - I've said the same many times.

Anyways, again, back on topic.

This is all getting very interesting

Saturday, 21 April, 2007 2.06PM
Provisional Scores to End of TS30 Mole Creek
Modern
918 - Sullens / Barkley
922 - Longhurst / deVere +11
919 - Richards / Oliver =+24
991 - Weeks / Allan =+24
996 - Quinn / Wenn +52

Classic
577 - Broadbent / Goedheer
631 - Pye / Geelan +42
513 - Coad / Vandenberg +1.34
636 - O'Keefe / Winton-Monet +1.46
717 - Kaplan / Kaplan +1.56

Jimmy's dropping off, Longhurst is catching Sullens and Weeks is catching both of them. The Quinns are slowly fading.

Rex and Mick look like they have Classic under control.

See Aussie actor Eric Bana trashed his XB Falcon Coupe, and turned it into the Incredible Bulk!
The red Falcon reminded me of Allan Moffat's City Ford coupe from 1975!

Can't help but think what a great 12 Hour these vehicles could have at Bathurst.Suppose there are lots of reasons why it couldn't happen....?
