Scott suffers from colitis, he is currently experiencing a very bad time, indeed he's not really been well since he got to England. He has reurned to the USA to recouperate and seek the advise of his specialist.

I don't think Insider-42 really knew what the illness was when he made the comment, so don't be too harsh...
For those that don't know about colitis, it's downright horrible. If you've got a strong stomach, research it on the net. I'm stunned that he was able to race if he was having such trouble, although I'm sure its severity is different in every person's case. |

Ulcerative colitis is a disease that causes inflammation and sores, called ulcers, in the lining of the large intestine. The inflammation usually occurs in the rectum and lower part of the colon, but it may affect the entire colon. Ulcerative colitis rarely affects the small intestine except for the end section, called the terminal ileum. Ulcerative colitis may also be called colitis or proctitis.
The inflammation makes the colon empty frequently, causing diarrhea. Ulcers form in places where the inflammation has killed the cells lining the colon; the ulcers bleed and produce pus. Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the general name for diseases that cause inflammation in the small intestine and colon. Ulcerative colitis can be difficult to diagnose because its symptoms are similar to other intestinal disorders and to another type of IBD called Crohn's disease. Crohn's disease differs from ulcerative colitis because it causes inflammation deeper within the intestinal wall. Also, Crohn's disease usually occurs in the small intestine, although it can also occur in the mouth, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, large intestine, appendix, and anus. Ulcerative colitis may occur in people of any age, but most often it starts between ages 15 and 30, or less frequently between ages 50 and 70. Children and adolescents sometimes develop the disease. Ulcerative colitis affects men and women equally and appears to run in some families The most common symptoms of ulcerative colitis are abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Patients also may experience fatigue weight loss loss of appetite rectal bleeding loss of body fluids and nutrients About half of patients have mild symptoms. Others suffer frequent fever, bloody diarrhea, nausea, and severe abdominal cramps. Ulcerative colitis may also cause problems such as arthritis, inflammation of the eye, liver disease (hepatitis, cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis), osteoporosis, skin rashes, and anemia. No one knows for sure why problems occur outside the colon. Scientists think these complications may occur when the immune system triggers inflammation in other parts of the body. Some of these problems go away when the colitis is treated. Last edited by Rocktracer; 20 Aug 2003 at 08:11. |

Thanks for that Rocktracer!! I've really enjoyed my breakfast!!
Seriously best wishes to Scott for a speedy (!) recovery. Hopefully we'll see him at Spa. |

Interesting read, if a little err, mmmm... glad for the Zucschauer's mention of a strong stomach!
Apart from that, I read he just had a stomach bug, which there's obviously more to it. Anyone know how long it usually lasts? (especially as El_Gibleto suggests he may have had it since the beginning of the season) Anyway, best wishes to Scott, hope he can return soon |

My understanding it is something that you have and learn to manage and live with, I don't think it goes away (ready to be corrected though...)

Scott did the qualifying at Rockingham. I guess the Turn 1 Chicane was just too much. Fair play to him for sticking with it for this long.

The cars bottom out at Turn 1. It's a fairly rough ride! I think they had 15 damaged tubs from the weekend at Rockingham.
I reckon F3's should miss the chicane and run both banked corners (Turn 4 followed by Turn 1). Imagine the slipstreaming battles! The FIA have approved F3's on ovals so there shouldn't be any excuses so long as Avon are happy with the higher loads. ;-) |

Didnt Iread something earlier about if Rockingham use more than one banked corner they have to run under their oval licence which causes all sorts of administrative and legal problems? hence the chicane

Yeah, the MSA has only licenced for one banked corner at a time for anything other than ASCAR and Pickups. The F3's would need to do a load of testing plus the oval advanced training thingy (at least I hope they would do).
ASCAR's rainy-day track plan uses Turn 4 and Turn 1 (properly) and then does the Historic Link bit which the Pickups ran last year. The ASCAR's would not use the chicane. |
