Couldn't agree more, no Plum Pudding meeting on Boxing Day to look forward to either.
Still there's a bike Trackday on Sunday & a car one on Tuesday to keep my spirits up.

I had two 406 Estates and a 405. The last '6 I killed through running it on Mini MM's 16:1 2-stroke. I've also liked Citroen: two BX and a Volcane ZX. Way back I was an early adopter of diesel with another Pug, a 305. None of them let me down in quite such a bad way as the "quality" Swedish brands - Saab and Volvo. Both had the brake lights stick on, we never did solve the problem with the Saab and I scrapped it. I was actually disappointed as I liked the car but all the peripheries started to fail. Vauxhall I suppose, it was only a Vectra with a body kit.

I've still got a 1991 205 Junior sitting outside. No rust of course, only 3 owners & 139,000km Just needs money spent on new tyres, brakes & a couple of lights, oh and a new battery, to get a CT.

Rea was on TV last night as a small part of the “Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone fishing” show (don’t ask, and no I don’t do fishing) and he looked bloody ill. ISTR he may be in remission from cancer?

I think he had his first cancer op well over 30 years ago. Several more since.

Edit: Found this article which says he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer first operated on when he was 33.... he is now 69. As a result he is also diabetic.

Should be interesting to see how you get on with it Peter. As you say the technology is interesting and it will be fascinating to see what progress there is in the next decade - infrastructure, energy availability etc.

No relay, that was one of the first things I thought about that a relay was hanging in. I have been in the workshop this morning and checked various things. With the ignition on all 3 brake lights are illuminated with the brake light switch disconnected or the wires bridged together. There is a positive feed from one wire and the other shows a feed to earth that I presume goes to the bulbs as they illuminate if I run a separate positive feed to it. There are 3 fuses that are linked to the "brake light bulbs" and one of them also feeds other circuits. This 406 hasn't got Canbus wiring and is ****ing me off.
This all started the other morning when much to my amazement the brake lights were on even before I got in to start it and the battery was almost flat. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the central locking and immobilizer as that had started to play up of late and I have been locking it with the key.
I have had this for about 15/16 years and up until now has been very reliable and economic always returning over 50 mpg, I bought it off a customer of mine with a rod through the block after it had revved it's nuts off running on it's own oil when then turbo s**t itself.

It can be very difficult to find some of these sort of problems .
Some cars have the brake light circuit linked through the ECU & can show a management fault if the brake lights are not working .
Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes , or a reset code for the ECU if you know what it is .

A quick read up on your sort of problems comes up with water getting into a recess somewhere near the drivers footwell , and causing all sorts of electrical problems with some connections there . Can cause immobiliser & light faults .

Tried all that, I ran my Snap on scanner on it and reset everything (it is my job in real life) and nothing is showing up. What I do know is that it is one of the models that was made on the change point of Canbus wiring and has other wires ready to go to other things that would be fitted on the change over.
Normally I find with customers cars with this sort of problem is that somebody has been fitting something on their car and wiring it up after looking at all the "experts" on the internet However as I said I am the second owner and it's completely standard.
I have seen all sorts of things in my job over the years including an estate car that was AA relayed into my workshop with major electrical issues. I noticed that a new child seat that had been fitted by the owner had a rear belt fitted to the floor behind the rear passenger department. He had actually got his "Black n Decker" and drilled a 5/16 hole through the double floor and put a 6inch bolt through both and tightened it up. He had also drilled through the rear wiring loom that was between them !!!!! Why it didn't go up in flames I'll never know. Happy Christmas

Yes I have had the carpets up with no sign of water ingress as I have had the same problem on a customers 406 that sodded the immobilizer system up. The very best place to fit an ECU is under the carpets of course like the Audi/VW range have a habit of doing
