Early signs are that cars can run close together, which is good. I do fear the new DRS will be a little too effective on more typical circuits though.

Trying to put the Mercs under pressure with the undercut, but for that to work you have to have pace...

That stop was premature. Pit strategy is still Ferrari's weak point.

Congratulations to Bottas and to Mercedes as well really. I don't know if Ferrari are worried about what it shows for the season or just downbeat to have not done that well in Australia, but this is not the most typical circuit, so where aero comes into play more, it could be quite a different situation.

Lewis usually looks the happiest when he wins, as though it were the first ever, and the saddest when he doesn't and he seems to have matured even more, just reacting well, even if he's disappointed.

Brilliant Bottas . The extra point for fastest lap is livening up the last few laps . I stayed awake so great race to watch .

This is interesting race only because Bottas finished 20-ish seconds ahead of Hamilton. What could justify such difference between two cars from the same factory?

Yes, LH was pitted early to cover Vettel, as he was behind Bottas. That cost him later on, along with the lack of ‘rear end’ caused by the so far unexplained floor damage. He was maybe lucky that Max lost a couple of seconds with his off near the end and didn’t take 2nd.

Shame Lando couldn’t get a point on his F1 debut, but his pace later in the race didn’t seem capable of allowing that. At least his Renault engine kept going, but wondering if it was ‘turned down’ after Sainz’s fire?

Agree that Leclerc looked to have the faster red car near the end!

Yes, I agree with this. Surely that extra point would have been worthwhile if they weren't prepared to allow him to annoy the team leader by passing him, which on the evidence I saw, would have been fairly easy.
