NinnyMan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Not entirely correct. The article actual says that a team "would need to get
permission to use Mercedes IP" but as of this very moment "no one has even asked them".

As time drags on, the possibility of a 4th manufacturer, factory involvement
or not, is becoming less likely.

Wasn't some time ago that a spokesperson for the above mentioned worlds largest appliance maker said something along the lines of ' we don't get involved in pushrod engined motorsport" then promptly kissed NASCARS @ss to gain admittence?

Said appliance maker does have a US based pushrod V8 that could be
easily destroked/ reduced bores to suit our series.

Let the "beige cardigan driving suit" jokes begin.

It would, and they've got a few engines to work with.

VW's motorsport program has always been very specific to Europe. I can't see them getting involved.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be Toyota...I know they have repeatedly said in the past they aren't interested but with the recent release of the 86 which is selling like crazy maybe they are looking to take off their cardigans ?

Oh, and they have another 2 Sportscars in the works as well.

Its funny that the only new Toyota in recent memory that sells off the shelves before they even get there is actually for all intents and purposes a Subaru..

Of interest also is that Toyota is a significant shareholder in FHI, owners of the Subaru nameplate...

Given that the 2WD BRZ is also a move away from Subaru's 'All For The Driver' AWD mantra, could Subaru be the partner being fitted up for a V8Supercar presence in 2013 and beyond?

Subaru already make a 2.5L 4 pot... so welding 2 of these together to make an 8 potter, admittedly a double-H not a V8, could be the answer to a question nobody thought to ask

Dont forget - spray painted metallic pink, all white custom interior, huge rear wing, polished chromed wheels - all worth more than the car itself. I think there even might be a "Mad *****" sticker on the rear window.

Well if you think VAG and not just VW then you have an all-conquering Supertouring team of note, who is currently a COTF builder... Not to mention a couple of VW Beetle RSi models that ran around as a factory effort in the GT class of the day?

With VW shooting for #1 worldwide perhaps the biggest motorsport game in the local area is not such a long shot? They are on a big push, is it a crazy thought to think that it might be Skoda?
