Was I the only one quite impressed with how the Ganassi team got the #42 up and running on Sunday?
They were two laps down with an awful car early on and in the end they got back on the lead lap at a good pace in the top 20. A few more laps and they could have made big gains but it was just too late. Incidentally, Juan called for a camber change mid-race and that cured a lot of issues. Contrast this to the 07 who remained rooted at the back and the 48 that went backwards mid race and never recovered. I may be easily impressed, I don't know, but for me this was one of the best races that team has done. Normally they fade a little but they chipped away and moved forward. Combine this with Reed Sorenson's impressive season and the team looks to be inching slowly forward. And Juan finished fastest in the Phoenix test too I believe. |

Just posted on Jayski: #99 cup car penalty $100k/6 week suspension/100 driver & owner points, and no 10 point bump in the chase for the win (assuming he makes chase).

NASCAR hands Edwards hefty penalties Wednesday, March 05, 2008 NASCAR has penalized Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards 100 driver points and levied other sanctions as a result of rule infractions found last Sunday after he won the UAW-Dodge 400 Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. NASCAR has also taken away the 10-point bonus Edwards would receive for the win if he makes this season's Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup. Edwards was the Sprint Cup points leader but now drops to seventh in the standings. The team was found in violation of the rules because the car's oil tank cover was not attached. As a result, Edwards and car owner Jack Roush have been penalized 100 championship driver and 100 championship owner points, respectively. In the event the team qualifies for the Chase, it will not receive the 10 bonus points used for determining the Chase seeding order. Crew chief Bob Osborne has been fined $100,000, suspended from the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, suspended from NASCAR until April 30 and placed on probation until Dec. 31. NASCAR has had a series of penalties for car of tomorrow infractions, each of which cost the driver 100 points and led to a suspension of the crew chief. |

NASCAR is run by idiots. I really fail to understand how a loose oil cap gives any kind of performance advantage. It's a wonder that tv ratings are down and a lot of fans (including myself) are disgusted.

It's not an oil cap. It's the oil tank cover, which is different. The tank is boxed in, and as has been said, with the cover loose/missing, it aids under-body airflow, which improved performance (allegedly).
Though the rules state that it must be there and fixed. If it isn't, then the car does not meet the rules. I admit I find their penalties a little draconian at times. |

Yoo-Hoo, I am hearing that Robby Gordon has won the appeal and the 100 point penalty has been rescinded.
IMO the penalty to Edwards wa warranted and in line with other such penalties. The infraction gave Carl an advantage as it increased the downforce on the car. Evidently they thought it was intentional. Last edited by muggle not; 5 Mar 2008 at 23:53. |

http://stockcarscience.com/blog/inde...il_tank_covers After reading a few stories on the web it's hard to believe the story of Roush. BTW Jack Roush and Toyota, I don't think they will become friends... |
