Now why would I want to run and hide? Rubbin is racin', right? That's what everyone always says, isn't it? Dale Earnhardt did it for years, and everyone loved it. But if Jeff Gordon does it there is something wrong with it? I think Mike Smith put it best in this cartoon, titled "The Earnhardt Bias", printed in the Las Vegas Sun on August 6th, 1999. I fail to see why it's fine for one person to drive aggressively, but it isn't for everyone to do so. To me, that is unfair. So far, as a general rule, Jeff Gordon hasn't been the most aggressive driver. He has been to a point, when necessity warranted it, but not always. Yesterday he drove a little aggressive, and finished in the top 10 again. But let's face reality here. Dale Earnhardt won 7 Championships and got the nickname "The Intimidator" because he drove aggressively. He went out and did what had to be done to win, and did not let people's opinions stand in his way. Jeff Gordon has 4 Championships and has only been aggressive about 40% of the time. I have always said when Gordon gets tired of having it done to him and starts fighting back by driving more aggressivly, look out. Last year in New Hampshire when Robby Gordon spun him out, I told my wife "He won't do anything. He hardly ever does." But I was wrong. He went out and rammed him. It was as if he was saying he wasn't gonna take it anymore. I think that day has finally come, and the days of Jeff Gordon, Mr. Nice Guy are over. |

Tim, there is a difference between being aggressive and being wreckless.

If you mean "reckless", yes, there is. But if you're implying that Jeff Gordon is reckless, I really think you're reaching.

I don't think the Wonder Boy was reckless out there. Saw that Wawd got into him...but Wawd was sliding up the track all day, but Jeffy came back around and laid the chrome horn on him. Might have been too agressive when he got into Casey, but seen lots of drivers do the same thing.
BTW...Tim, I wasn't one of those ppl who loved what Earnhardt did. Almost stuck my foot through the tv on two seperate ocassions during Bristol races when he took out T. Labs & nascar didn't do a damn thing to him. |

My point precisely. But just like me, you may have not liked what he did on occaission, but there is no denying he was a great racer. Something the Anti's have a hard time admitting about Jeff Gordon. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean they are not good at what they do. After all, you don't get to be a Champion if you ain't a winner.

Obviously, Casey Atwood slowed up considerably and JG just had too much momentum going when he hit the number 7. We have to remember that JG doesn't have as much experience running in the back of the pack with some of those not so competitive drivers and he probably just puts too much faith in the way they drive.
We know Jeff runs wide open all the time, and he probably has a hard time figuring out why everyone else doesn’t. There is no question in my mind that it wasn’t an intentional hit and if anybody thinks it was, then they don’t watch NASCAR racing much. How come we haven’t heard what happened to Robby Gordon yet when he was called to the trailer for confrontation with Jimmie Johnson ??? |

OK- I will even say that he is a great driver. BUT----That don't mean I have to like him! I really think the reason that most of us "ANTI's" have a problem with him- is that when he does do a bonehead move, he is defended to the end as "cannot do any wrong" & even the broadcasters seem to ignore the times that he does those boneheaded moves. There just seems to be a hush hush--don't talk about it mentality. |

I weren't talkin' about you, Sweetie. Perhaps I should have said "Something some of the Anti's have a hard time admitting about Jeff Gordon." Is that better, Dear? Oh noooo... Boxing Gloves Warning! *runs*
