Derwent Motorsp should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Bentley DC Silverstone August 7th

I thought I would start this thread as I am entered. It's a true clubby meeting with some wonderful mixes of cars in the Allcomers races. Only series are MGCC Thoroughbreds and the Equipe GTS.
Sadly it must be one of very few race meetings now that do not have to have championship rounds to get their entries.
I think over the years the number of Bentleys racing has dropped. No doubt if you have a vintage Bentley you get lots of invitations to some of the prestige events so the clubby events suffer.

Number of Bentleys racing has reduced in all forms of racing along with other Pre War cars,Pity.
The handicap race last year was one of funniest things I have been involved with. The cars are supposed to lap within about two seconds of practise time.No chance 6/7 secs being norm .

I will be there Saturday 7th August, in the Bentley scratch race but not in the handicap: as John says the handicap system does not work: last year I was gridded behind cars that were faster than me and away from cars of similar speed, so no decent race partners at all........

I'm out with the Equipe GTS crowd in the Grantura. Looking forward to a nice laid back meeting after the Classic the other weekend.

I hope to be there on Saturday. Is there any timetable info anywhere?

And what circuit is it on? National? GP?

I've never been to Silverstone before so any info on the best place to spectate from is greatly appreciated.

A lovely informal clubby event. It took me back to my youth when I was taken to all the events at Silverstone in the 50s/60s and there were those run by the Eight Clubs, SUNBAC, NSCC etc. This must be the last of those events - a real club fun events with an eclectic mix of cars in every race.
No need for championships, just fun races!
Am I right in thinking the BDC are the last club still running just one race meeting a year?

My first time at this event and I have to say it was fantastic. Extremely well run, the organiser made you very welcome and there was a suprisingly large number of spectators. It reminded me of the old 8 Clubs meetings and I can't wait for next year. The sight of a 1913 Vauxhall beating everything up to and including vehicles from the 1970's was really entertaining.

Yes I am afraid so, we also run a Sprint Meeting which for the last few years has been held at MIRA and lots of our guys do compete elsewhere, glad you enjoyed it.

It is not really a 1913 car, some of the bits are from 1913, the engine is from a ww1 SE 5a fighter plane. All the bits were assembled quite recently.

Are we talking about the Viper? If so, a pretty amazing machine, all the same. I think the owner is an occasional reader here!

The Viper was fantastic! Great selection of cars racing together, something you never see now.
I was quite surprised that some of the Bentleys were really quite tatty. One had difficulty with his lights at scrutiny due to a real dogs dinner of wires and joins and the car looked in need of a good restoration. The Napier Bentley was also rather poorly presented which surprised me.

Isn't that part of the charm??

Its one of the reasons I love watching some of the VSCC stuff, some of the cars are kept running by hook or by crook - I like the attitude.

I love the knackered Napier (even though its only 30 years old really!)

The Viper was also impessive at VSCC Prescott the following day. It seems to get faster every time it appears.

Taken on a misty 20 June, 2009 at the VSCC Cadwell meeting. I may have recounted this before but the driver, and it was during the race, was, in effect posing for me. I was not only the only photographer there but in fact the only person at all viewing from between Park and Chris Curve!:-
