Obviously, fans of any sport will continue to turn up and support whatever sport it is they like or not but the increase in TV ratings is very good news considering how bad they have been over the years.

Either way, as interesting this discussion is, if it's to carry on the Current State of IndyCar thread is probably the best place to continue this, as this is neither News or Rumors. Indeed, you could start a thread about TV ratings and crowd attendance.

Charlie Johnstone has left as President of Honda Indy Toronto, for presumably greener pastures as CEO of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (which is, incidentally, held at the same venue, Exhibition Place).

http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases...525912641.html

His replacement is Jeff Atkinson, who was VP of Green Savoree Racing Promotions:

http://www.hondaindytoronto.com/more...a-indy-toronto

Charlie is a great guy and his leaving HIT is a loss. I wish him well at the Royal. And I wish Jeff Atkinson the best of luck going forward. It will be interesting to see if things change a lot, or not.

The Toronto contract is up after 2017 race, and given there is a lot of uncertainty in the development of that area of the waterfront and pressure from downtowners to cancel the race I would not be surprised to see it move on.

Some people keep saying this, and it keeps not happening. We'll see. Given that recent article about the parlous debt state of many IndyCar teams, the whole series might have folded up by then anyway.

I'm not worried about development - the Exhibition Grounds are pretty static other than the honking great hotel that they're building. Ontario Place is supposed to be re-developed, but that's on the other side of the Lakeshore. And I think all the noise about burying the Gardiner Expressway is just that - noise. One look at how much it cost to do the same in Boston ought to scare Toronto away from that entirely.

But - who knows, you may be right. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Interesting. I've always wondered what the current drivers in IndyCar, who once raced in CART and I know it's getting fewer, think of the DW12 compared to the Lolas and Reynards of the CART era?

USA to have a future FIA-sanctioned F3 series?

This could have implications as another feeder series for IndyCar, as well as potential future teams.

That was kind of my response too... yet another spec open-wheel development series? I do agree with the idea that if it really provides a training ground for future F1 drivers, then maybe it's a good idea. But otherwise... on what weekends will it run? I can't see IndyCar opening up events to something that's not part of the Road to Indy development ladder. US and Canadian GP weekends maybe? Or just SCCA events?

That's exactly the problem with the idea. As a part of the Road to Indy, the whole Road to Indy would be like some junior soccer tournament (where everyone gets a medal) with 10-car races.

And as a Grand Prix support running other races basically with a club series the problem is that the rest of the schedule would be kind of dull...I mean USA and Canada at some extent is just not the right environment for a prominent F1 feeder series.

Calgary?

I don't remember hearing about this before... maybe Calgary in 2017?

"Schmidt Peterson Motorsports co-owner Ric Peterson said plans are progressing for is hometown of Calgary, Alberta, to host a Verizon IndyCar Series race targeted for September 2017. … "

http://www.indycar.com/News/2015/09/9-30-Notes-

On the other hand, Calgary in September could be interesting. It sometimes snows there in the middle of July.

Canada could do with another race or two on the calendar, having lost Edmonton.

I went to Calgary once years ago, in late August, early September and it was cold. I don't know if that's normal for that time of year.
