Certain elements of the English speaking world has, in recent years, had a penchant for choosing obscure and weird names for their offspring.

In the States, they have seemed to have taken it to extreme. According to the BBC website ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46393501 ), in 2014, it was found that 328 families had named their child "Abcde".

I am almost lost for words!

Possibly.

But it just happened to fit in with some comments I had read about Economics related to Energy costs and how to compare different eras. All of which, put together, goes a long way to explain why I, and no doubt others, have ended up in a situation where we pay organisations a service fee for what they do to diminish the value of investments.

It has occurred to me that I could do that for myself far more effectively for my benefit.

Of course the wisest of the TenTenths membership have been doing that for years via their investment in motor sport.

Well that's better than some of the alternative made up names we hear from time to time!

I assume some techie families have used Qwerty at some point.

If one goes through old parish records one can find all sort of odd spellings of names, though mostly of something more traditional than Abcde and often biblically derived. Also variations of family names.

Apparently this was the result of low literacy rates in the general population and some of the clergy although the problems for the clerics might also have been associated with predilection for alcoholic beverages especially in areas where the water supply quality might be questionable. (Pretty much everywhere then ...)

Well I've just had my late father's home movie archive put to DVD. They're pretty badly faded - and he wasn't much of a cameraman - but amongst minor "slebs" such as the Queen Mother with Princess Margaret at a local point-to-point there was motor racing galore from the 50s and very early 60s.

There were close-up shots of true Royalty, Moss and Hawthorne deep in conversation then signing autographs at the British GP Silverstone. F1 racing in those funny old cars you all like so much - Ferraris, the external-tanked Lancias, Vanwalls, even an ERA in one shot, many taken from my dad's favourite spot on the pit balcony. Saloons and sports cars from Silverstone, Oulton Park and Castle Combe - maybe even Goodwood. The crowd protected from crashes by a bit of rope and half a dozen straw bales. All in all it looked like a "historic" grid from 2018, but the cars were just old bangers and much less valuable.

For Delta there was a big grid of 500s at what I think was Combe.

Then there's a shot of my mother cradling a baby, and after that no more motor racing. Ah bugger. That'll be 1962 then.

If I get clever enough I'll edit the files and get them on that modern Tube thingy and post a link up.

Yes please- I presume the baby was you? My Dad took loads of 8mm stuff, which I still have stored away. Sadly don't think any motor racing though- just family stuff, and probably embarrasing....

This time we are one step ahead, sorry. When they launched our last generation carrier, proudly named Charles de Gaulle, "someone noticed" that the track could be too short. Back to the shipyard. Fixed, then lets sail! Oops, "chef, c'est la merde, chef" they lost a propeller! Happy to find the rescue and its… Zodiacs!

Did they not find fault with all the propellers from their supplier, due to the use of poor materials? When an investigation was launched by the Govt. the supplier's archives were suddenly mysteriously destroyed in a freak fire.....

Gerard! I see that the ‘peasants are still revolting’ in Paris.... (English double meaning phrase ) Hope it’s non-violent.

Interesting that here fuel prices have dropped quite significantly in the last 10 days, so not sure what’s going on. Maybe an early Christmas present from the suppliers!

Quite right sir, to be more accurate they found faults on two propellers of the same side, left I think, one being a spare. Materials used are said difficult to melt together. The fire destroying archives, right again. What is interesting too is why do we need so much sophisticated propellers? Because the engines are too weak. Simple like that! C'est la vie? C'est le bazar surtout!
When Mr French Average - pleonasm, Your Honnor! - comes back from almost any foreign country the first things he relates are: food said terrible just because different and corruption. Because, as anyone knows, we have absolutely none here, pas vrai?

Partly the price of oil has been dropping.

The current reduction do not seem to reflect the present price.

About a month ago I got a 10p off a litre deal from Tesco after spending £60 in store.

In past times when they were running such a promotions the best was only 5p per litre off.

So there must have been plenty of flexibility in the margin even back then. They can use it to pitch for Xmas market share in their other business areas.

It is very important to have as much efficiency from the engines as possible in order to avoid Carbon pollution. To help out with that and other matter propellers must become complicated!

I got your picture, Mike, and you show again that you have a deep knowledge of our history. Of course it is violent. This is an answer to a governing body saying "we hear you" but not "we understand you". This is violent. What we have in Paris, they dont have in other towns/areas. At the moment.
I can't do it in good English, sorry again, but the situation could be compared to Louis XVI th at Versailles few days before a dramatical "evolution". Year 1789. "Que veulent ces gens?", "Rien, Sire, ils vous acclament, ils vous acclament…"

Yop, Grant, its not a just add water job. But we have well paid specialists to fix that. They use two submarine engines and not a proper one to move the thing.
What could be slightly irritating is studying how "details" work, in our Army or Navy. Who are the lessors of the computers, who are the software suppliers? Just hope this doesn't come from a foreign country… If not they should throw the whole thing through the "windows"!

Got it.

On a different note, seems ‘emissions gate’ is still digging up dirt on manufacturers. Just got a letter to advise that my Vito has to go to the dealer for a ‘software update’ to be installed in the Engine Control Unit......

Many assurances included that the ECU update won’t affect fuel consumption, power, torque or emissions, and will actually lower NOX. Wonder how long I can leave it before contacting the dealer.....

Nothing new here about this diesel gate. VW France president, Jacques Rivoal, accidentally erased all the contacts, texts from his smart phone just before the arrival of the police. Clean guy, smart a..! Three years later, the complaint brought against Peugeot-Citroën, Renault and Fiat-Chrysler is a fiasco.
News from Sushi-Goshn anyone?
PS: with a certain French accent, sushi can be heard as trouble…

I understand that the country was Italy.

I believe that you can purchase ex French army underpants quite cheaply, and only slightly soiled.
