Drink [VASC18R25] SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000, Mount Panorama 4-7 October

So here it is ladies and gentlemen: The biggest race in Australian motorsport, the SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000!

Plenty to talk about with Triple Eight's continued form with their 1-2-3 at Sandown and all three drivers have won either the 1000 or 12hr. Will they have another win with either #1, #97 or #888? Or could another surprise such as the defending champions (or in case of the Australian Deadpool known as David Reynolds "attacking champions") that is the #9 team of Mr. Reynolds and Luke Youlden? Can the Australian-American team that is DJR-Team Penske bounce back from their current slump and setup woes or will they be lost in the echo of the screaming fans and engines? Who will win the coveted Peter Brock memorial trophy, etch their name in the history books and be one step closer to the Pirtek Enduro Cup trophy? (for which is round two out of the three)

As for your humble thread starter, it's looking like he'll be staying at home but will be getting a new set of PC monitors and TV to get a 4K experience and drag out the BBQ and have a swell time with friends and family even though he would love to hang out with the race team that invited him down. (although if it was anything last year, I won't be drowning staying home)

The Mountain is calling......

Jamie and PD to erase the sins of the past, and PD to announce his retirement.

Bamber maybe a questionmark with Bathurst's small margin for error.

There are a number of question marks over the codriver fleet.

A few swaps would make sense, even intra-team, but are unlikely to happen

I can't see a winner not coming from the House of 8s.

Will prodrive crack the Top 10?
Who of the co-drivers will be a star, and who will be a stooge?
How fast can the new Commodore go?

Dave Reynolds says (hopes?) that the hard tyres will bring 888 back to the field. It might be a long afternoon if they don't.

I think there are 3 reasonable length straights at (Pit, Mountain & Conrod) Bathurst that might negate that kind of thinking...

Tekno & BJR have the same engines aboard yet aren’t showing the same performance, anywhere...

That's because it's not the engines that T8 are working on to make the car go faster.

About the only hope Ford have at Bathurst this year, is to have the 888 team abducted by aliens sometime before they arrive at Mt Panorama.

Who knew the two title protagonists would lunch engines, and the rest of their fleet wouldn’t bother the time sheets too much..

Flying from the other side of the world for this so hopefully be a more exciting race than Sunday’s (especially waking up at 4am to watch it) excited to experience the event and if the race it’s self is exciting than that would be a nice bonus

Perhaps Mr Penske will bring some go fast parts for the Falcon's when he comes out for Bathurst.

I know it's Bathurst and anything can happen but on current form it'd be hard to bet on anyone other than Whincup or SVG for the win.

Dane lays down the smack:
https://www.supercars.com/news/champ...?sf197962430=1

ZB fast out of the blocks, Ford teams whine about composite panels.

Scotty Mac gets on top of his car and shows blistering speeds while 888 and others struggle to figure out the ZB.

2 races later and now the ZB has a technical advantage.

If DJRTP had 2 drivers of equal ability, and PRA were not lost in the wilderness, things might be very different.

What is it about Scotty Mac that seems to make him a teammate killer? A bit like Frosty too, has a car set up a certain way nobody else can follow it.

For my ten cents with it is his ability to drive a car with a loose rear end on it without burning up the tyres or suffering under brakes & on turn in. Gives the car a straight line advantage from less wing relative to his team mate, especially in qualifying which is half the battle.

As for the disparity in aero up until now the difference was most pronounced at Phillip Island. It was talked about then but got lost in all the carry on about composite panels. The ZB's could pull out and pass in a way the Falcons couldn't get near.

The 888 cars appear to have excellent shocks for riding kerbs. Which is a lot about Adelaide and Sandown, less so Bathurst. Wanneroo is always about tyres & thankfully they will be resurfacing that over summer.

Anyway Bathurst is 888's to lose. The only hope for anyone else is Whincup has another brain explosion or SVG has a failure/accident. Both of those things occurring in one race would be highly unlikely. Judging by the way Lowndes leapt out of SVG's way at Sandown he wont be a factor.

Listening to teams, the biggest concern for reliability appears to be the transaxle. Who's going to be unlucky and suffer a failure at Bathurst?
