stirling lost should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Abingdon CARnival rally stages 9/10 June

What a cracking weekend this was two sprints and an autosolo on Saturday and a full day of rally stages on the Sunday. Some spectacular driving and very competitive.

a couple of pics from Sunday:

We've done Abingdon a couple of times - it's good fun but some of those concrete walls are a bit close! Whereabouts was the last of those photos taken? Is that down through the blast walls?

Hi Bert

For a rally stage there was a rather lot of hard objects to avoid, personnel carriers and lorries for example. Although that's great for photos to be honest.
Not sure what the area is called but blast walls would be a good description of the area. Very narrow with lots of concrete, I got load of shots in that spot until an Escort hit the first concrete pillar.

Cheers

We went backwards between 2 large piles of metal ammo crates how we missed them I'm not entirely sure. That incident prompted us to buy better tyres

I'm not entirely sure what that area is/was used for but they were descirbed to us as blast walls - I assume it's a 'ready use' ammo storage area or similar as they're way too narrow for aircraft to be housed in. The first time you go through there at speed it's squeaky bum time - they're not marked in the roadbook as anything special so it's a bit of a shock the first time you ever see them. Marked as "caution - narrow" second time through Hitting one of those isn't going to go well - they don't look like something that's going to give way! It looks a bit more overgrown through there than the last time we did Abingdon. Have to give it another go at some point.

That is the bomb dump, used for bomb storage when it was an operational field flying Wellington and Whitley bombers in the 1940's. It later became an Operational Training Unit (OTU) for Transport Command.
