Improved Production Nationals - Oran Park August 30 & 31
This one should be absolutely huge, with 100 of the best Improved Production Touring Cars converging on the Oran Park GP circuit for 2003 Natinal titles.
After hosting last year's Nationals, 19 Queensland cars will be heading down to mix it up with dozens of NSW competitors and the top guys from Victoria, S.A. and Tasmania. Support events will include, Sports Sedans, Saloon cars & street sedans. I'll be there, crewing on my mate's 1600 Escort, hope to see you all. |

We will be heading up with the Forty Winks RX7.
I think also from Victoria will be: Kelvin Twist - Guru Motor Sport RX7 Ken Douglas - Selectmaz RX7 Rohan Ambrose - Guru Motor Sport RX3 Doug Beaton - RX3 Am not aware of any others entered so far. We were supposed to be running at Winton this weekend as a prelim to the Nationals, however have canned that for a full weekend test at Phillip Island. It is going to be a massive weekend at Oran Park. I am really looking forward to it. Cam |

Cam, we'll have to meet up.
Why is Victoria, with it's vast population sending only a few cars, when little old Qld can send 19!!!!!!!! |

David,
Yeah definitely will catch up, after having posted on here for so long! The reason that there are so few Vics is the fact that the weekend after the Nationals is the final State Round and there are quite a few people in contention for the title. We missed the first round, and blew an engine on the Saturday during race 1 at the Third Round. We also missed a race during Round 2 because of some wiring faults. Therefore we are not in contention for a championship. Hence there were no questions about us going to the Nationals. However the competitors attending will be phenomenal: -> Ray Hislop -> Ken Douglas -> Rohan Ambrose -> Leanne Ferrier Are just a few of the names that are certain to run up the front. I could go on and name about 15 people that would be chomping at the bit to knock these guys off, and that have the ability to knock them off. Will WW be running? Cam |

Are we going to need our snow shoes for Winton this weekend?
Cant wait for the nationals, as for you mexicans, we are doing Winton this weekend, Wakefield the week after, (Oran V8s), a week off (YAY), then the nationals . Whats your problem? Just dont want to get spanked by the rest of the country? As there will be people representing all states, with the exception of NT, no good excuse there either |

Victorians don't seem to like travelling, not with race cars anyway, seems they prefer caravans.

Can someone remind me what state the winner of last year's Nationals was from?
Victorians don't travel as much mainly because in 2002 we had a variety of 4 circuits to race on. (Looks unlikely this will happen in 2003). Obviously we are not a little group of people that travel together to race meetings. We are all separate teams all competing against each other. I honestly couldn't answer on anyone else's behalf because I don't know their situations. I would love to be racing at Winton this weekend, however the man with the money believes that the money would be better spent on some serious testing at the Phillip Island Circuit. I have been told of this anti-Victorian behaviour from our Northerly neighbours, but I didn't expect it so soon. |

Cam, I know that the Vics had a 1-2 at the Nationals last year, in fact i called the race, but you must admit that at most interstate meetings the victorian representation is proportionally low.
Many people from Qld and NSW have noticed this and wondered why. I have often suggested that it is because you feel you don't need to travel when you've got 4 tracks of your own. I'm very surprised and pleased that so many, 19 in fact, Qlders are travelling to the Nats at OP. We have round 4 of our 5 round state Championship just 3 weeks prior. It's not true that Vics aren't popular or welcome in Qld, otherwise you wouldn't see them moving here at the rate of 500 a week! Aynway, it's good that the top Vics are making the trek. Whoever wins the title will surely have earned it. |

Hi,
As a Victorian competitor and committee member I have been trying to encourage other members to race interstate for the last couple of years. Last year I ran in the Interstate Challenge, and the previous year ran in Tasi at the Nationals (where the only interstate people were 3 Vic's and 2 SA's), actually I was the only interstate person to finish the finals, I must say very low inthe field with a broken car though :-( Actually last year Victorians won both the under and over 2L nationals in Qld.... All I can put it down to is yes here in Victoria we do seem to get plenty of racing on 4 different tracks so most of the guys say this is enough. I know this year many guys are running on a tight budget so to even compete in our 7 round championship is taking its effort. Also in NSW, to travel to Qld or Vic is not bad you are sort of in the middle. Normally the only Qld we see down here come with a Pantec so that is not bad for travelling, most of us have to tow or pay a transport company that doee not know what they are doing! Cam, I thought I would see you on Sunday at WInton, keep up the practice for the Nationals and get that car sorted, you are going really well. Cheers, Kelvin... Hi david, thanks for the welcome.
Re the Nationals I have entered but not 100% committed in my plans. 2 reasons. 1 the following weekend is our last state round which I am finally working my way upwards in and 2 the financials. I have spent heaps trying to sort out an ECU/Engine/Dizzy problem that has cost me a couple of engines that has set me back someway... We think we now have it sorted after a great deal of help from Phil Morris (Motec) that has been great, we did okay at the last state round (2nd in each race) but still not 100% happy with where we are with it. It sounds like there's going to be quite a few 10/10ers there. This might be a bigger get-together than Bathurst or the GP.

Hi All
Flying the flag for Tassie will be Ray Hislop - EB GT Liegh Forrest - Turbo Celica Scott Willing - 2Lt Escort This is all I know about at the moment, as the vics will tell ya Ray's Falcon is a quick unit and should be at the front. Liegh has been trying pretty hard and has often been at the front at previous nationals, considering he does it all himself it's a mighty effort Scott Willing , well all I can say is have a good look at this car, it is immaculate and it goes better than it looks!!! Its raced only 3 times and already is a pooftenths of the lap record for under 2lt at Baskerville. Just remember is it 4 Times Roger Hurd from Tassie has won the Nationals |

G'day Group C and welcome to the forum. I ran at the '97 Club Car nats and Hurd's A9X was very impressive. Forrest's Celica is also a quick little jigger. Is Willing's Escort a black & green mk I?
For such a small state with a tiny population, you manage to have some pretty good cars down there. What are the fields like at a typical meeting? |

Hurd's car was very Quick for what is was ( still ran a very basic alluminum cage, may be there's some thing in that?)The car was sold to some farmer on the North west coast and hasn't been seen since.
Willing's car is all Black, it's a new car built from a car that ranabout ten years ago. runs a twin cam head. some times we struggle to get 6 IP cars on the grid, then out of the blu you get 15 plus cars, not a lot to the mainland but when you only get 60 to 70 cars at a race meeting its about it. A meeting in May consistated of the following IP - 12 cars Targa /sports GT - 13 Group 'N' /invited - 9 Formula Vees - 12 HQ's - 4 Sports sedans - 2 real sports sedan and 5 cars from other classes But we do get some good milage for small entry fee's $140.00 entry - 1 day only meeting - 12min Qualifying |

That aint bad going, spose it helps having less classes, but bonus for those who do turn up.
Comparing to the QLD meeting we have next weekend- $180-$195 entry (depending if you are a member), you get- 15min qual, two six lap races on Saturday One six, twelve and five lap races on Sunday What goes on in the other states? |

Last year some of the VIC's came over for a run in Targa class and IP, but so far this year none have fronted. next meeting is at Symmons Plains August 24
If you drive your car onto the boat it can travel for nothing, you only have to pay for passengers. most of the time we can help with a trailer. The cars dont have to be registered just have a No Plate on the vehicle for identifacation reasons. |
