Hi all.
Just bringing this thread back up as i would like some information
Im building a replica Zakspeed Gr2 escort. i have some bbs E55 centerlock wheels and wondering if anyone has any drawing or dimensions of the hubs to suit. I have done some Designs using the drawing off the wheels i have got but would like near as possible to the originals.

Great photos by the way

Thanks in advance

Welcome guide1, suggest you look on the Motorsport History section here as the thread deals specifically with Zakspeed suspension. I don't know where you are in the world but there is a replica in NZ using BBS wheels though E50 according to the owner.

There is also another thread dealing with the restoration of a Gp5 Zakspeed Mk2 here.

Hope that helps

Hi Mike - off topic a little

I just got back from first test at Goodwood with the Jagermeister Alfa...
I didn't know if you could share with me what Avon tyre compounds you run on - all a bit of a learning curve for me... The wets i used seemed really soft but not sure if i should have used a harder compound.

Many Thanks

Roz

I thoght the Gp.2 cars all had bolt on wheels? The later Gp.5 cars had centrelock, but earlier ones (like the REAL one here in NZ) used bolt on as well. A friend of mine has built a Mk1 replica and used centrelock E50's, on Sierra Gp.A front struts, with his own rear hubs.

Buy the wheelnuts from BBS here:

http://www.bbs-racing-wheels.com/index.htm

They are M72x2 from memory, and not expensive. The hubs will have to be tailored to whatever you are fitting them to. The BMW M3's and 635's used this thread size too, and most of the hubs I have seen are made from aluminium, although I believe there may have been some titanium ones around too.

wheels

Hi, I have built a replica MK1 Zak but wanted to use centre lock wheels as I had some Grp A Sierra struts, these are a floating spindle ,where the bearings are in the strut. So I used E50 centres and used shells to suit. On the rear we made our own hubs similar to Conrad's photo. We used a twin bearing rear hub for an Atlas, then instead of the steel drive flange with internal spline and nut we used an alloy hub adapter. We made this hub with a large spline in the centre and pressed in a steel plug which had a smaller spline inside that was a loose fit for the axle.To stop oil coming out a plug is fitted inside the adapter with an o-ring,this is retained by the wheel clip.We made our own axles a bit bigger in dia and gun drilled them down the middle to reduce weight. The end of the axle has a thread in the end.So to remove an axle you can leave the wheel on the car, undo clip, remove oil cap, screw a bolt into the end of the axle and pull it out.Widths of everything will depend on what axle width you want to use, wheel width you want and the back spacing of your centres.I think Gary is going to make some more rear hubs, contact him if you want the correct ones. Also I have the tooling for an Alloy Atlas if anyone is interested.

Pretty sure i've seen Gr2's with Centerlocks. Im using a set of bilstein struts.
As for front hubs i have designed a hub that would used the twin taper bearings (similar to a normal hub but with a centerlock face instead of studs).
As for rear i have designed a fully floating rear hub assembly (Based on the works rally car set up using twin taper bearings) with all appropriate seals and O-rings.
I will post up some pics of my design.
I do have some pics of the originals but with no dimensions:

As for the Wheel nuts i did hav a Technical drawing for these but have lost that.
I do recall the M72x2 thread as Conrad stated.

I am using an Atlas axle, i will be retubing it to have the desired width.
Paul, do you have any info on the design you mentioned and more info on the alloy atlas axle as that sounds very tempting.

Regards

If you havn't found it this thread in Motorsport History includes some info from Paul on the alloy axle he has on his car http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126585

Info is later on in thread.

The pics where sent to me by someone in germany who had an geniune zakspeed Grp5 that was in restoration. They had all the tehcnical drawings for the zakspeed escort but unfortunatly these are still confidential even this many years later.
Although they were remanufacturing the complete hubs but at a cost of around £3500!!

Pic of Car

more of Hubs

I'm going to have a read through that thread now
thanks
