Please note that I have put Colin's post regarding David Cabena's passing in the Tribute forum, so please feel free to add your own tributes, there.

Didn't think I could get to this meeting this year but have decided to squeeze a visit in for Saturday. Weather looking good as well.

Had a good day at Cadwell yesterday in fine and warm weather. Mainly good grids, certainly for the open wheel classes but the two Road Sports classes seemed a bit thin. As did the crowd - I thought that it was on the small side especially given the weather. Maybe because it was a qualifying morning - maybe better today with more racing but I only went for the Saturday.
Anyway a few batches of mixed photos for interest. Firstly from the Formula Junior races (FE & RE) - they were separate but a few from each in this batch. |

Four from the Formula Ford race and a couple from the 70s Road Sports.
Incidentally, the white Titan car 10 in the FF is James Hadfield - I think I overheard the commentator mention that James is Simon Hadfield's son fairly new to racing (I think). Very impressive he was - finished second. |

Last from me all taken as the shadows lengthened - a couple from the Classic Formula 3 race (first one is the green flag lap). Car 26 is Simon Hadfield who went on to win.
Plus four from the 500cc F3 race - Iain was driving car 18. I managed to shoot all all races on the Saturday to a lesser or greater degree so if anyone wants to see anything else let me know and I'll check. |

I had a great weekend racing in the 500s alongside Delta.
Saturday was a scorcher of a day. Qualified 6th and whilst giving the car a once over noticed a crack in the steering column. Quick word with Delta and the welding kit was out and all fixed - Many thanks once again Iain. Good race just need to lose some more weight so that I can begiun to catch the jockeys at the front of our field. Finished in 5th so a good day and a smile on my face. Just have the car to prepare for my first ever hillclimb at the Chateau Impney in 2 weeks. Could not rsist with it being 3 miles from home. Gary is there any way that I can get a copy of the photo of my car from you - Number 16 of the 500's and any others that you may have? Stuart Wright |

Gary
Would you be happy for the 500 Owners Association to use these photos in their race report - obviously credited to you? Stuart |

Stuart - that's fine. Let me know if you want a selection of any of the other cars and I'll upload them to the same gallery.

I didn't manage to hit the 13th in class requirement for a race report so I'll jot down a few thoughts on what was an exhilarating but ultimately frustrating experience in my single seater debut. Sum of previous experience = 6 laps at Thruxton for a bit of fun last year. Had to re-learn Cadwell too as not been there for years. Seasoned single seater drivers might find these comments a bit strange but when you're used to the internal volume of a GT or saloon (even the smallest ones) the confinement of a FF2000, which I'm told is quite generously proportioned compared to others, is quite unnerving and certainly not for claustrophobes.First lesson though is getting in & out of the thing and if you can dislocate your knees this would be an advantage, as would some gym time spent on the parallel bars (last time I did that I was in the Boys Brigade, so not recently). The bodywork prevents you seeing anything but the tops of the front tyres and out back you only get a view of anything worthwhile when the mirrors stop vibrating, which they don't unless you're standing still. Once you get moving though it all starts to make sense and you almost forget about the heat and other discomforts. In practice I tootled round coming to terms with all this, in race 1 my preoccupation was keeping out of everyone's way and in race 2, much more relaxed and feeling quite determined, I missed a gear on the 2nd lap causing the water pump belt to jump off and that was that! But I'll be back for more......

Not a good day for the Lotus Cortinas in race one of the Touring cars. What happened to 48,53 and 37?

48 had a half-shaft break early in race 1 and no spare for race 2. 37 had a surfeit of oil, but mostly outside the engine, in race 1 - non-start in race 2.
52 had a bit of an off in race 1 which brought out the red flag. Armco damage precluded a start in race 2. |

Excellent shots again Gary. You seem to have found a lot of new Cadwell Park shooting angles. Bravo.

I thought the whole meeting was excellent! Cadwell has never looked better and the racing I saw was fantastic. I'm old enough to have seen James King win a British F3 round at Cadwell in 1977 in a March and to see him win the second HF3 race on his first visit since then was very nice.
Iain and I got back to Delta HQ in just 4.5 hours - there were absolutely no traffic problems. We were in the pub shortly after 9:30 for the customary debrief. |
