That was actually for the 997, but it was in fact a downgrade, just making use of readily available donor chassis.

The 997 Mk II Cup-car can do 2.25s around Spa , but IIRC GT4 was never close to even 2.30s (GT3s do 2.18s or so).

There is already a factory developed GT4 Audi TT and a BMW M3, as well as Camaro and Mustang.
The Audi was never put into production in GT4 trim as far as I am aware and it was the last gen. TT anyway.Similarily, the Bimmer has been discontinued as well - though there might be a privately developed M4 next year... and the Camaros that made it to Europe are built by Riley Tech rather than P&M so not much of a factory project, though factory approved, either. The new Z28s in Conti Challenge are P&M, though and could easily be adapted for GT4.

Surely the Lamboghini Trofeo cars are a long way from GT3 (and far cheaper)and could be subject to Balance of Performance.
I guess they could be bopped down, but the Gallardos are AWD, so that's one problem and they really aren't the type of car GT4 has been geared at so far.

The cars are out there.
Agreed, though not necessarily for GT4, more like a GT3.5...

Thanks for knocking me back, Lol!

The point is that as GT3 gets ever more expensive there must surely be place for GT4 from more manufacturers.

...or something else. My money is on TCR, Marcello Lotti's new baby.

Just a gut-feeling, but somehow I think the pendulum is slowly swinging away from the GTs and towards the tourers again... Not saying GT-racing will vanish or anything, but touring cars have really been at their nadir (on the continent) and them coming back to a more prominent position will take a chunk out of the GT-market.

The difference between Saloons/ Tourers and GTs has been fairly arbitrary for some time. Bentley GT? Most of the cars in the Italian Superstars (Super Touring, or whatever it's called this week) could be described as GTs. Maybe the cars in that series should be homologated in to GT4. Also consider the World Rally GT cars, and if they were GT4 type cars, too, then you might get even more manufacturer interest across the board and GT4 would really take off.

Maybe they could both co-exist in economically better times...

...personally I think that whilst having such a strong GT4 grid is good, the lack of the headlining GT3s is worrying. Hopefully, as stated before, hopefully we get quality, not quantity, and the new Aston and McLaren young driver schemes can help the British GT scene in years to come.

And 22Racing will return with an Aston Martin, along with an FF Corse Ferrari with Adam Carroll returning! Still think he's a huge coup for BGT!!

Superstars/EuroV8 is semi-officially dead by now... so I supposse GT4 could pick up the pieces (and suppossedly some of those cars will run in Italian GT next year), but there won't be any new cars out of that corner.

I think we simply can't assume that GTs will always be king of the hill in production based racing. When I look back at the 90s - and with an admittedly somewhat German-centric perspective - GTs on a national level were very unimportant. There was one series with any kind of TV-coverage, the old ADAC GT Cup, an even they bolstered their grids with stuff like Escort Cosworths and Opel Calibras. On the other hand, we had a touring car pyramid that was 4 or 5 layers deep with the top three of those (DTM, STW and DTC) having live TV-broadcasts of their races, each of them headlining their own standalone weekends and drawing decent-ish crowds.

The situation is very much reversed today, but with GT3 slowly pricing itself out of existence for many markets and TCR gobbling those right up (Spain and BeNeLux come to mind), I think we'll move away from the GT-centric world we see right now. Sure, there are always some old geezers with more money than brains that will want to drive around in souped up Porsches and Ferraris, but the thing that makes national GT3 so interesting right now is having all those professional or semi-professional drivers and teams and those really don't care all that much about what kind of cars they are running as long as they can make a living doing it.

Agreed - as a trackside spectator I want to see the GT3 cars - GT4 type machinery is closer to club level machinery and doesn't have the 'wow' factor, I want to see the big, snorty stuff thanks

Maserati actually developed a Gran Turismo based GT4 racer (which evolved into the MC Stradale road car) and produced a batch of them, which where raced with some success a few years ago. In addition to the factory team, also Brazilian, Dutch, Italian and Swiss teams raced with those GT4s. None in Britain, however, as far as I know. I suppose there just is a strong preference for Ginetta, Lotus and AMs in Britain....

IIRC they were also pretty creative at circumventing the price cap... Nice car it was, though. I think I saw one at the GT4 support races to the 24h of Zolder in 2009, but I don't think they were around for very long...

They were raced as late as 2013 in the Brazil GT series. But, you are right that racing efforts with the Maserati GT4 were at best sporadic.

Some more good news it appears that 5 of the 7 rounds are going to get live TV coverage on Motors TV:-

http://www.britishgt.com/newsitem.php?key=2288

That is very good news for the championship.

Any news on more confirmed entries? I'm sure I read somewhere that there was a capacity field for this year but that list above leaves a few gaps - the only other entry I've heard about is a second TF Sport Aston.

I like the Wylie/Watson line-up at Von Ryan! Again I feel we need more GT3 cars. 12 is hardly any compared to recently. 12 is hardly any full stop. Whilst it's nice to see GT4 in rude health, where are the proper cars???!!!

I would like to see a bigger cross over between the GT4 Supercup on the BTCC package and the G55's in British GT. Would be go to see the GT4 cars go to the package (series looks set for ten car grids at the moment) and then those from the package cross back over to add EVEN MORE to GT4 in British GT.

Not sure I'd want any more GT4 in British GT - they're really not that spectacular to watch (probably partly as the GT3 cars look and sound so much better - sharing the track makes the GT4's look and sound second best).

Did they? Haven't heard anything about that yet - though there will be a privately built Cayman or two in the Euro-GT4-Series this year.

I am also really looking forward to see the SIN R1 GT4... that and the KTM could be the cars that really transforms GT4 into something a bit more flashy and exciting.

Edit: There it is!
