Highspeed finger signals
NO not DC's famous signals but I saw something really funny. I just watched an onboard lap from Eddie Irvine downloaded of f1onboard.com, thanks Ch Nein Aus. As he came out of the first chicane what looked like a WIlliams moved over for him. As a sign of appreciation, Eddie raised a finger. I just thought how funny, as if he was going to see that.

Did you see Rubens do it in the race? Wonder why?

On the ITV coverage Martin Brundle said one actually does see the signals quite clearly. Specially with the amount (or lack of) wings they had today. Surely the drivers can see it. Else they wouldnt do it?
The comentators reconed he wanted the other to pass on the left? But i dunno... I think he was just yielding and putting up his hand as one does when you are going slower? Last edited by Cougar21; 15 Sep 2002 at 19:52. |

When Rubens raised his index finger, my initial reaction was that he did it to indicate that "I'm number one, I'm winning this race today!"
The commentators said he did it to indicate that someone could pass, but we never actually saw that, did we? |

On the lap in question, Rubens went about 4 seconds slower than Michael, so let JV through. After the race, Ross Brawn said that he'd instructed the drivers to slow down. And in the press conference Michael said that he didn't want to hold up anyone elses battles so let them through.

In the irvine situation his hand remained on the steering wheel and his finger would not have even been seen over the side of the cockpit let alone from a car that was then behind.
