HANS Saftey System, would you wear one?

I was reading some club FF message boards based in the US and there was a discussion on the topic of the HANS saftey system <as used in NASCAR and CART>, it appeared that most of the ppl on the board either used one or thought it was a great idea, and theses guys were all regional club level guys. Over here I don't see anyone using one no matter what the level they are driving at. I wouldn't mind using one, after all you only get one neck...What are your thoughts?

I have said it before on these forums - yes I would definately wear one, but I don't know about availability in this country, and I'm unsure about the modifications needed to the helmets..

I've just started wearing a standard foam neck support.

Simon Pullan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I've worn a neck brace since I was a dot in karts and I think I was the only Caterham Superlight driver to wear one this year. I'm sure I'll be the only driver with one in British GTs if I move up next year. I would definitely consider a HANS if it was practical and reasonably priced. Otherwise I'm fine with my neck brace

The cost of them is around $1500 depending on the model and you need to send your helmet to them in the US for the fitment of the anchor points.

I've been looking for the site for the last hour but can't find it again...Anyone know what it is?

Tim,

Try www.hansdevice.com - not sure if you can actually order on-line but it has order forms for faxing through and contact information.

Btw: Do you race in Formula Palmer Audi? Just wondering 'cos I saw a previous post of yours about FPA (I'm Gideon's Press Officer)

Rebecca.

Hmmmm...Plans for next year...

I'm working hard on getting back out in FPA to be honest, I think its a pretty good place for me to do more learning right now which is what I desperatley need. Although there are a couple of other things in the offering...Just have to wait and see...just the same problem as everyone else...Money.

How about Gideon, whats he got lined up for himself?

I know there's been a lot of (negative) talk about it, but I agree with you - FPA is as good a place as any to get your racing stripes. You'll have to let me know if you need a press officer

Gideon's in a similar situation - we've got offers but no definite plans at the moment. It depends on sponsorship really, but FPA is definitly one of the options.

Tim -

At the moment, I work for Gideon, Helen Moore (Fiestas) Gideon's company, Cresswell Racing Ltd, Rick Pearson (Clio Cup 2000, European V6 Clios in 2001) and his team, Mark Fish Motorsport (Clio Cup team and driver champs, 2000). It's lots of different things though, not just press/race reports e.g. raising public awareness, producing marketing material, designing web sites, finding sponsorship, arranging personal appearances etc. etc. etc. If you'd like any more info, just send me a quick email: rebecca.a@ntlworld.com.

ok, sales pitch over

Good luck with your plans for next year
