Thats a shame - no Ray Morgan with his great Escort, look forward to August though
just seen on entry that Rob Gibson is going to be in BMW minis. Should make that class more exciting

I had no idea this meeting was even taking place!!

No advertising, and nothing through in the post asking what meetings us marshals are attending - at least I know what I'm doing this weekend now seeing as I don't have the kids

The championship dates have been in the Marshals Needed section on here for a good length of time now. Also check http://www.marshals.org.uk/LHMClform.htm .

Not sure what the system was, but there is a new way of letting us know you are attending. It's all online, so it makes life a little easier!

Thanks B Friendly - unfortunately I don't live on the PC - I much prefer a fixture list dropping on my doormat

Duly completed now though - see you all at the weekend!

Thanks Hog! Unfortunately the details we have are old, so we didn't want to just send availability forms to just anyone, it would have been a waste of paper!

See you at the weekend!

I seem to remember that when I got the usual SEMSEC paperwork through, it mentioned contacting LHMC direct for anything Rx related?

There was a link posted (then removed by mods) to a faceache page called official rallycross marshals - doesn't cover volunteering for all rallycross through, maybe more accurate to rename it or explain that it's only events organised through LHMC that they manage. If a search doesn't find the group for you, then a pm to Chris or Donna on here will sort you out

Not sure if we're going to get along to any Rx this year - by the time the event dates eventually got decided, I'd long since sorted out my volunteering for other events.

Bet you guys get more dust & noise this weekend than I will at Silverstone - have fun

Excellent news! - assume I'd remembered the name accurately enough to enable folk to find it...

Hopefully we'll read what folk think of the new finish line, plus a few piccies by this time next week?

Colin Anson's KA looks awesome. Hope it goes well. Assume that it is spaceframed or in some other way not eligible for the ERC, it just doesn't look like it would be eligible.

Are there any pictures of his car (or rather Ka) up yet?

EDIT: Cancel that request, I've just seen the post on rallycross.com!

Not quite as McRae R4 looking as I was hoping, but still looks pretty purposeful. Be interesting to see how it does on track.

To be honest why would it look like a McRae car when it is actually supposed to be a KA!!

Or it just me!

The basis - and the inspiration - for the McRae R4 came from the DJM Motorsport Ka. The basic proportions and certain panels for the R4 came directly from the Ford Ka.

Given that Anson's car was prepared with the assistance of DJM Motorsport I wondered if any of the R4's styling or setup would be reflected in his Ka.

As you say though, the final product has to resemble a Ka, so a full R4 copy was unlikely. I was gutted that we never saw the R4 on a stage or track, so anything close gets my vote!

Agree with that, is there only the one in existence? After his death there was still talk of the project going ahead but assume it's gone by the wayside. Even if they did build them, where could you use them? Back on thread that KA looks pretty mean, hope it goes as well as it looks.

At Rallycross.com they say Anson previously drove a 4wd SAAB. Anyone have some info or pics of the car?

I always thought there was just one (R400 CMR), but I recently noticed that the article on the R4 on the DJM site makes reference to a second (LHD) prototype which was being built for the first customer.

There were suggestions that the R4 programme would carry on following McRae's detah, but that seems more and more unlikely the more time that passes.

I have no idea if the second prototype was ever finished or what happened to it. When my 6 numbers come up I shall ring DJM with cheque book in hand and find out!

Wasn't the McRae car for Dakar and other rally raids?

Thats the McRae Enduro. There are a couple of cars in the McRae Enduro "range", all geared for Dakar style events. Most of the development work for the endurance stuff has been done by Alistair McRae.

The McRae R4 was Colin's project and was just finding its feet when he was killed. The aim was to produce a "cheap" (I believe £110,000 was touted as the cost) competitive rally car, with the aim of running the car in rallycross, ice racing etc. as well. Not sure how it would have worked with regards to existing rally series/classes, but a R4 only series had been mentioned.

Sadly it seems we'll never know now.

Okay

Is the enduro project still active? Last Dakar there were no McRae Enduro's entered so I assumed the project was dead. Instead of the enduro there were several McRae mini buggies entered.

That question I don't know the answer to. When I saw the stand for the McRae Enduro range at the Festival of Speed last year it had both the Enduro and the buggy on display. They seemed to be heavily promoting the buggy (I think they were launching it as part of a new Dakar class?), but the Enduro was still on the stand.

Judging by the two incidents at "Dorans" bend today I wonder if that mound will be flatened for when the Europeans come so that theres no risk of more cars going over at the same spot.
Great coverage from Motors TV today

That mound proved a little expensive today for the Dorans; I was watching it on telly and said to a friend of mine after Joel had destoyed the Swift that he'll be having words with his nephew about why that mound was there! I couldn't beleive my eyes when Liam himself became a victim of it too!
The coverage was good Martin Haven did a great job, the crowd looked a little thin though maybe the live transmission keeps a few (like me) in there armchairs?
