BMW Z4 Coupe for GT3?

The Dubai 24 Hr winning BMW Z4 Coupe seems to have the legs of the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup cars. Do you think it will make a decent FIA GT3 car?

I seem to remember that Stephane Ratel wanted to include it in his GT4 thing but I think no one likes the GT4 idea. I think the car is good enough for GT3.

Satorian has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
In Dubai it somewhat kept up with the RSR and RS. Unless those were restricted or handicapped in some way, it should even make a nice GT2 car if given a power bump.

You will have problem with the aero as you can´t put a proper GT2 spec rear wing on the back, thus it wouldn’t be possible to make a GT2 out of it. With the rear wing it used in Dubai and in the German VLN it can only compete in the national series.

Ah, OK. Thanks for the info. What's exactly the problem with the wing though? Could you elaborate a bit?

I was surprised to see the Z4 hang with the RS(R) Porkas though. I wonder how it would perform it it had the BMW V8 and was anywhere near the ~450bhp of the GT2 Porkas.

Don't have the exact figure for the bhp but I expect it is at least 450bhp as the engine builder used normally extracts 480 out of the 3.4 in sprint spec and slightly less for endurance (due to rev restriction).

Price wise the €300k purchase price is also expensive compared to most GT3 cars.

To my mind it sort of falls between GT3 and GT2 which is a pity.

Oh. The numbers I still had floating in my mind were 3.2l and ~400bhp as per press release when BMW Motorsport announced the car. Didn't know they applied some custom tuning then. Would explain the pace though.

So BMW actually can make the Z4 Coupe into a GT3 car... what a pity. I think Ratel should go and persuade BMW to turn it into a proper GT3 car with a competitive sales price.

Indeed the BMW Z4 would be a valuable asset to GT3 and suprisingly didnt look out of place when I saw it racing neck and neck with the GT3 Mosler in the Silverstone 24 hours last year.

Wouldn't that have been a GT2 Mosler last year? Don't think the GT3 car has raced anywhere yet?

The Rollcentre Mosler that raced at Silvertone last year was in GT3 trim. As I understand that was the very first car Rollcentre converted into GT3 spec', a test mule if you will.

Ah thanks for that. I didn't know they had the GT3 racing as early as September.

Would make sense, especially with the ADAC GT Masters, as the M3 attracts more buyers. Thank God it will be based on the new Coupe body. Looks a lot better than the sedan. Should be an interesting GT3 entry.

Are there any rumoured takers for an Euro campaign yet? Schnitzer? Duller? Scheid? GS Motorsport?
