There are still plenty of spaces available for the Brands Hatch day so drop me an e-mail (address at the beginning of the thread) if you would like to come along and have an enjoyable day ON the track for once.

Any suggestions as some toe-rags have just nicked the Clio off my drive (after breaking in first to nick the keys)

I've only been to one track day and the organiser really stressed that timing was not allowed. As this rules out the element of competition surely one is still covered by the standard insurance policy?

A while ago when Oulton could be hired for a session for very little money a chum of mine wrecked a road going E type at Cascades. He claimed on his motor traders policy, arguing that that was the only place he could identify a fault at over 70 mph.
Stephen...is your life insurance affected by your marshalling activities?...especially yours!!!

I don't think so. My bike policy specifically states that it does not cover 'any liability, accident, injury, loss or damage that happens while any motorcycle covered by this insurance is being used on any race track or off road activity of any description.' I would think the same would apply to a car policy.....can't find mine!

It's pretty likely. I can't remember the exact wording of my policy, but I'm sure it mentions "track days or other motorsport events timed or untimed" or something similar. Of course you could always make sure you don't go fast enough to risk trashing your car!

The obvious would be to ring your insurance company and ask them!

Things have certainly changed in the insurance world, I once had an 'any driver' motor traders' policy which theoretically covered everyone in the world...even if the car was stolen!!!

Had my car insurance renewal through today.

On the certificate it states that the policy does not cover....Track Days.

the policy booklet defines Track Days as....

"The vehicle Is being Driven On A Motor Racing Track, Airfield, De-Restricted Toll Road Or At An Off-Road 4x4 Event"

That is the definition of Churchill Insurers.

Whilst I appreciate the generosity of MSV, I won't be taking my car to a track day.

A slight sidetrack and nothing to do with the track day.... a lot of policies allow you to drive another vehicle with third party only cover.... but I have recently discovered many of these stipulate that the car must be insured by somebody else as well. Therefore be careful to ensure any other car you may use has its own policy against it.

My classic car insurance covers me for track days the only change being in the amount of excess I would have to pay in the event of a claim
I know a lot of the standard car policies mention motorsport related activities but some may be covered just by paying extra excess as per my policy
I suppose the only other option is to take it nice and steady round the track, but then I guess that's defeating the object

Change of plans
I have managed to get a race-prepared Porsche 944 for the day with an instructor as well.
It's setting me back just over £500, but since the trackday would normally be costing me over £150, I think it will be worth the money.
Roll on Tuesday 14th December - looking forward to it even more now.

Phill, I'll come over a have a look at the porsche I'll be there in my 944 Turbo
£500 sounds pretty good including the instructor, I'll have to make sure I follow you round if possible and get all the right lines and braking points
