posting a reply
Being a new user, I'm probably just being a bit thick - but I'm having a bit of trouble posting replies.
I think I've worked out now how to do smilies and icons but how do you highlight a passage from someone else's message that you want to reply to - if there is a particular part of a message you want to answer ? |

Then at the top of the reply panel you will be offered, under the big smilie panel, some buttons, one of which is Quote. Pressing that gives you a dialog box into which you can copy (or type) what you want to appear in the Quote lines in your reply. The easiest way to find and copy the particular text you want is to scroll down below the Your Reply box where the system helpfully gives all of the posts in reverse order. Unhelpfully you need to realise that the Quote text (and smilies, bold, italic etc ) are inserted at the end of the reply, not the insertion point where your cursor is. Regards Jim |

Simple. Above each post on the thread is several icons, such as IP, Warn, Edit and Quote. Click on the Quote icon and it takes you straight to the post reply screen with the quote already pasted on. Just delete the bits you don't want to specifically reply to, and type your responce underneath. For example, to reply with a quote to your post, I clicked on the quote icon above your post. When it took me to the post reply screen, I highlighted the part of your post I didn't want to reply to (....'Being a new user, I'm probably just being a bit thick - but I'm having a bit of trouble posting replies. I think I've worked out now how to do smilies and icons but' ...) and pressed the delete key on the keyboard. Then I clicked at the bottom and typed the answer. Hope this helps! |

Alternatively, you can use the Quote button at the top right of each post which quotes all of that reply into a full feature Reply dialog. Then delete the bits you don't want to quote.
Six or two threes really. Jim |

Right followed all that - got the quote in the box but then when I've submitted the reply - it hasn't got the lines above and below the "quote" just the word quote at the beginning. what have i done wrong now ?

JimW - When I click on the quote button on the reply page - I get a box come up to type/ copy in the bit I want to highlight - however I can't then scroll down the page to go to the post that I want to copy the bit from. Basically I can't get the quote button and the post I want to copy in the same page, and if I do it the other way - I don't get the lines above and below - just the word quote at the beginning and end - confused now!

When deleting the quote text that you do not want, be careful not to delete the [Quote] at the beginning and the end. This will leave the lines.

Alternatively, click the 'quote' button on the top right of the user's post, in this screen.

Eventually you will get into the code and can add several quotes to the post. |
